Emerson Radio 250 - Clint Bowyer Notes
Huntersville, N.C. (Sept. 7, 2005) – This weekend Richmond International Raceway will play host to the NASCAR Busch Series running of the Emerson Radio 250. If this weekend turns out to be anything like ACDelco driver Clint Bowyer’s first trip to the 0.75-mile oval earlier this year, then look for the No. 2 Chris Cagle/ACDelco Chevrolet to be a threat Friday night under the lights.
“Make no mistake, we did have an unbelievable race car that night,” said Bowyer. “I told Gil (Martin) he could have got behind the wheel of that car and led that race. It pretty much drove itself around the race track. But, you do have to work the traffic and be good in traffic. Things were working really well that night and I was able to get through the traffic. We just made a gamble in the pits that didn’t pay off in the end.”
Back in May, Clint Bowyer led three times for a race-high 66 laps. Unfortunately, a late race pit strategy that didn't pan out left a frustrated Bowyer to finish ninth. Coming off a race last weekend where Bowyer started from the pole and then went on to lead 12 laps and finish third, the 26-year old couldn’t be happier to have Richmond next on the list. The Emporia, Kan., native feels the No. 2 ACDelco team has the perfect momentum to continue to close in on Martin Truex, Jr. and their title hopes.
“I can’t wait to get back to Richmond,” added an excited Bowyer. “I feel like we definitely had one taken away from us there earlier in the year. We are riding a wave of momentum right now, which is exactly what we need heading into the final part of the season. We need another strong finish if we want to make a run at catching up with Truex and Richmond is a place where we feel we can get it done.”
Points of Interest…
No. 2 ACDelco driver Clint Bowyer on Richmond International Raceway …
What makes this short track unique from the other ones you have raced on?
“There is one thing I like about this track that Bristol doesn’t have. You can race at Richmond and not hit anybody. That’s the main thing I think this track has over a lot of other short tracks. You can get under other cars and race them and not have to get into them and push them out of the way. It’s a cool race track and racing at night adds to the excitement.”
Another win seems right around the corner. You have been close here lately. What are your thoughts?
“I am pretty hungry for a win. I’d like to win another race that’s for sure. My goal was to win three and I am two shy right now. I am just trying to lead those laps and get the bonus points and win a couple more races. I’d like to win a couple more to meet my goal and close in on Truex.”
