Shane Hmiel / Braun Racing Quick Facts:

  • Shane also drove BR10 at Phoenix this year and was running 3rd until being involved in a crash on the restart late in the race
  • Hmiel finished 8th in the Busch series race at Richmond in May 2003, and last season he finished 7th in the September NCTS race

Shane Hmiel about Richmond International Raceway:
“I’m always look forward to going to Richmond because I love short track racing at night. It seems like all of your senses are heightened and it reminds me of short track racing on the weekends when I was growing up. Richmond is a great track that always provides good, hard competitive racing. I’ve always run well there, but we never seem to finish up to our potential. Hopefully we can turn it around this weekend with the WINFUEL Chevrolet and get back on track with a top-five finish.”

Hmiel about the #32 WINFUEL team’s preparation for Richmond:
“We had a good, productive test at Richmond with the WINFUEL Chevrolet last month. We weren’t very good when we unloaded, but my guys worked hard and we were able to hit on a good set up before we left. If we can unload as good as we were at the end of the test, I think that we will definitely be in contention for the win. I will be very disappointed if we don’t end up leaving Richmond with a top-five. This WINFUEL team has had a hard time the past couple of weeks, between getting caught up in wrecks that we’re unavoidable at Phoenix and Talladega, and having tires problems because we missed the set up at Darlington. Hopefully, we can turn it all around this weekend and get back to finishing up front like we are capable of.”

SHANE HMIEL STRIVES TO PUT #32 WINFUEL CHEVY BACK IN FRONT UNDER THE LIGHTS AT RICHMOND

MOORESVILLE, NC (May 10, 2005) – Richmond International Raceway is known for tight, short-track racing at high speeds, and that’s why the NASCAR Busch series looks forward to racing there twice during the season. Shane Hmiel and the #32 WINFUEL team are striving to get their season on track by getting back to producing top-five finishes.

“I always look forward to going to Richmond because I love short track racing at night,” Shane said. “It seems like all of your senses are heightened, and it reminds me of short track racing on the weekends when I was growing up. Richmond is a great track that always provides good, hard competitive racing. I’ve always run well there, but we haven’t seemed to finish up to our potential. Hopefully we can turn it around this weekend with the WINFUEL Chevrolet and get back on track with a top-five finish.”

The #32 WINFUEL Chevrolet has been blistering fast the past few weekends, but the Braun Racing team doesn’t have the finishes to prove it. Hmiel has been running up front in the last three races, either to end up collected in an unavoidable accident, or to have tires problems. This weekend at Richmond, the WINFUEL team hopes to get back to finishing in the top-five like they did at the beginning of the season.

“This WINFUEL team has had a hard time the past couple of weeks, between getting caught up in wrecks that we’re unavoidable at Phoenix and Talladega, and having tires problems because we missed the set up at Darlington,” Hmiel explained. “Hopefully, we can turn it all around this weekend and get back to finishing up front like we are capable of doing.”

In preparation for the Funai 250 at Richmond, the WINFUEL team tested at the end of April. “We had a good, productive test at Richmond with the WINFUEL Chevrolet last month,” Shane said. “We weren’t very good when we unloaded, but my guys worked hard and we were able to hit on a good set up before we left. If we can unload as good as we were at the end of the test, I think that we will definitely be in contention for the win. I will be very disappointed if we don’t end up leaving Richmond with a top-five.”

Richmond International Raceway is “Racing Perfection Under the Lights”, and this weekend Shane Hmiel will strive for perfection in the #32 WINFUEL Chevrolet. Live coverage of the Funai 250 begins on FX at 7:30 p.m. EST.
