Stacy Compton Quotes
On Pike's Peak: "It's a shame the Nextel Cup Series doesn't get a
chance to see Pike's Peak because it's a great racetrack. It has all the
great ingredients - fast straightaways and corners that allow for
side-by-side racing. You can move around and find a comfortable racing
groove. The key is to make sure the car rolls freely through the middle
of the turns. If you can get the car to turn without working the
steering wheel real hard, you're going to be fast."
On the season: "Pike's Peak couldn't come at a better time for this
race team. We've had good cars all year, but we've had trouble getting
the kind of finishes we deserve. We've got a good record at Pike's Peak,
including a runner-up run last year. Phil Parsons also finished second
there several years ago in the same car. This could be the race that
gets us back on the right track."
Crew Chief Chris Rice Quote
On Pike's Peak: "This race team has some extensive notes on Pike's
Peak, and it's one reason why they're always good there. Stacy tells us
what we wants in the car, and it's our job to give it to him. One
thing's clear: He wants a car that jumps off the corners. To do that,
you have to make sure it has a lot of grip midway in the corner so it's
pointed in the right direction at the exit."
