Jon Wood Quotes
On Phoenix: “I had pretty good success at Phoenix in the truck series with three top-14 finishes. The Busch Series cars are a little different, but you still look for the same things: You want to make a lot of speed coming off the second turn. That part of the racetrack is real narrow and tight, so most people will be tip-toeing through there.”
On the season: “We were headed to a solid top-five finish last week at Texas then we got caught up in somebody else’s crash. The guys on pit road taped up the nose, got me off pit road and from there, we went from 21st to eighth in the final 39 laps. I think we were all motivated in that last 39 laps. I can’t tell you what an influence Jay Guy has had with this race team. We’re a completely different team from the beginning of the year, and we’re getting better and better each week.”
Crew Chief Jay Guy
On Phoenix: “There’s an old saying in racing that sometimes the best way to go fast is to slow down. That’s the case at Phoenix. It’s real easy to over-drive the car there because everyone wants to approach it like a speedway. Really, the best way to approach it is as a short track. You have to practice control there because it’s too easy to spin the tires, especially coming off the second turn. We need to keep Jon under control, and we need to make sure we keep the car under him with good pit stops and smart adjustments.”
