JON WOOD-47-Clorox/Wisk Ford Taurus (Finished 12th) - YOU WERE A TOP-10 CAR BEFORE AND AFTER THE ACCIDENT. "Yeah, the problem is it's just too many what-ifs and would-haves, should-haves and could-haves that are going on right now. We have fast race cars and we're running up front, but it's getting to the point where we need to start finishing where we're supposed to. It's a good day to frown on, a 12th-place finish, but we have a much better car than that." DISCUSS THE INCIDENT WHERE YOU GOT THE FRONT-END DAMAGE. "The 66 car got into the 14 and I was just right there behind them." HOW DIFFERENT IS A BUSCH RACE FROM A TRUCK RACE HERE? "It's pretty much the same, it's just a longer race and you have to get the mindset that you're running a longer race. That seems to be my problem that I try to go to the front too quick and you can't do that with these long races like this."
STACY COMPTON-59-Kingsford/Bush's Beans Ford Taurus (Finished 10th) - "The guys did a good job all weekend. We stayed loose all weekend and we just could never get it dialed in like we needed to. Once again, we needed this for points. We've had such a bad year that we needed this. The Kingsford Ford was pretty good. We ran fifth to seventh, those kinds of times all day. At times we could run times as quick as the leader, but we just never could get going like we needed. We stayed too loose all day, and loose just doesn't work." HOW IS THIS TRACK AGING? "It's just getting slick. Before it had a boatload of grip. It's aging and it's getting a little bit of a second groove but not quite. It's about a groove and a half right now, but it's getting better. I think in time it will continue to get better and better."
KENNY WALLACE-22-Stacker 2 Ford Taurus (Finished 2nd) - "My car was awesome. The 41 was just the fastest Busch car that I've seen in a long time. He was incredible. Jamie McMurray told me how fast that 41 was when he won Phoenix a year ago. Today I saw it firsthand. I want to thank my crew, Stacker 2, a great product. A new product SPLC is out and it will help you lose some weight. Besides that I want to thank my crew for building me a new race car. We've been tight the last five races and this is new car and it turns up front. I think there is more of this to come." IS THE SHOT OF MOMENTUM THIS TEAM NEEDS? "This has always been a great team. Jeff Green won the championship and Jason Keller finished in the championship about four years ago. This is a great team. It didn't have the sponsor it needed last year and it kinda fell back a little bit. We came in with a good sponsor, and I'm just picking up where a lot of those guys left off. Car owner Greg Pollex put some engineers back in place and we got a new shock guy. Wes Ward is going to get his second win here pretty soon."
JASON KELLER-35-McDonald's Ford Taurus (Finished 8th) - "We needed that and got a solid top-10. We ran around the top 10 all day long. I'm pretty proud of the guys, they had a really good day on pit road and that was the big thing. They kept me right there battling, and the communication between me and Pat (Smith, crew chief) is going to continue to get better. I kind of sent him off in a wrong direction, so that's going to continue to get better, so I'm excited about it." THIS IS YOUR FIRST TOP-10 FINISH THIS YEAR. ARE YOU SURPRISED IT TOOK SIX RACES? "We've battled some things. I think we've had some opportunities to get top-10s, but we haven't been able to do it. That's all kind of the 'new team blues.' You've got to go through that. I really was excited to come to a place like Nashville because I've had some success and feel real comfortable here. I thought I could give them feedback, but I kind of sent them in the wrong direction there, but it was a good day for us."
CARL EDWARDS-60-Charter Communications Ford Taurus (Finished 4th) - "I'm just really proud of Brad Parrott and the whole Charter team. We felt it was a bad day four us and we still finished fourth, so that says a lot about our team." WHAT HAPPENED BETWEEN YOU AND THE NO. 1 CAR? "I don't think he knew the caution was out and my spotter Jason Hedlesky was yelling, 'Wave him off.' I hardly ever have to wave somebody off. I was just pulling down and was lifting a little bit and he just ran into the back of me. It was just a fluke. It was just a mistake and no big deal." YOU TOOK ONLY RIGHT-SIDE TIRES ON THE LAST PIT STOP. DID YOU THINK THAT WAS GOING TO BE THE RIGHT CALL? "I thought it was a great call by Brad. The bottom line is that got us our track position and we weren't going to finish any better than fourth. I think that was about as good as we could finish as hard as it was to pass. I'm pretty happy with fourth. The car just did not feel that good and it didn't feel like we had right shock package on it."
KENNY WALLACE PRESS CONFERENCE
"I had a great race car. I couldn't ask for my car to be any faster. I was just stunned how fast that 41 was. I couldn't tell why he was so fast; he was just fast all the way around the race track. I really can't remember the last time a field got beat that bad; it was merciful. That 41 was incredible. Besides him, this was a new car. I'm obviously with a championship team. This is the same team Jeff Green won the championship with. They've retooled and regrouped, and we kind of got everything back in place. We put an engineer back in place that was with that team. Of course, we've got a new crew chief and everything is new. It was a good shot in the arm. We were eighth in the points coming in here. I've won nine of these races and it's hard to believe this is my first top-five since 2001 when I won at Rockingham. It's only fitting because it's where we should be."
"I had a great day and you don't want to complain. The NASCAR Busch is an awesome division, but there about 10 cars on the race track that are incredibly slow. NASCAR does their best, and as long you know what groove they're going to be in, there's always guys like that that are going to have a bad day. If it would have cost me something maybe I would been a little more critical, but I'm not going to complain."
"I was hoping he was going to run out of gas. With about five to go I was thinking to myself, 'Maybe he might run out of gas.' I had pitted after him. I was the last car to pit basically. I got my fuel later than he did. I know what it was. He came in for fuel and I came in for tires and fuel. You listen to these interviews your whole life and when you get spanked, you get spanked. All I can tell you is Jamie McMurray is a good friend of mine and he drives for my brother Rusty, and Jamie told me that when he drives that 41 car, he's never felt anything like that car. He won Phoenix last year and it was incredible how fast that car was. It was just so fast all the way around the race track."
"Something had to break on him. It was fastest that I've ever seen. I've never seen a car spank the field that bad. Maybe at Charlotte with Jimmie Johnson in a Cup race, but that guy was checked out."
"I want to remind everyone that all of the Cup cars are here. The only ones that are missing are Mark Martin and Matt Kenseth and I think there's one more maybe. These are all Cup teams now. This is a new era in the Busch Series. Kevin Harvick and the 33 car, these are all the same cars that are here every week, they just have different drivers in them."
"I'm going to test my dirt car Wednesday night if anybody wants any human drama. My dirt car will be at Clarksville, Tenn. Everyone says what are you doing for a hobby? I guess Junior and these guys play with their little RC cars and I decided to buy a dirt team. We've got about 26 races scheduled, and I sure do enjoy racing because I got a late start on dirt. My whole family ran it but me, but now I'm catching up, so we're going to do that this week before Bristol."
