Pepsi 300 - Nashville Superspeedway
Sorenson Dominates to win Nashville from the Pole
One word – Wow! What a difference a week makes. One week removed from having to drive his teammate’s car because he had failed to qualify in Atlanta, Reed Sorenson qualified on the pole and utterly dominated the event in Nashville to capture his career first Busch Series win. The 19-year old youngster just was in another zone out there today, leading three times for a total of 197 of the race’s 225 laps, only four other drivers got to lead in the Pepsi 300 at Nashville Superspeedway. Sorenson’s margin of victory was a massive 14.417 seconds, and his crew chief told him to ‘take it easy’ at the end. Sorenson now joins Carl Edwards and Tony Stewart as first-time Busch Series winners this season. Sorenson is also the first driver to win from the pole position at the Nashville Superspeedway. Kenny Wallace finished in the second position, albeit some 14 seconds behind the leader, and Shane Hmiel came home in third. Last week’s winner Carl Edwards finished fourth while Clint Bowyer rounded out the top five. Did you know that the top two drivers on the Rookie-of-the-Year charts are the top two drivers on the regular Busch Series standings as well? Carl Edwards and Reed Sorenson are 1-2 in both standings.
Sorenson Wins Pole Position in the Music City
One week after transmission trouble caused him to DNQ for last week’s race in Atlanta, 19-year-old Reed Sorenson made up for it in a big way, winning the pole position for the Pepsi 300 at the Nashville Superspeedway, a race to be ran later this afternoon. Sorenson was able to race in Atlanta last week after borrowing a car from teammate Sterling Marlin, who had qualified 28th, and handed over his car to Sorenson, although he would have to start from the back due to the driver change. Well, there will be no driver change this time and, unless something breaks, no starting from the back because Sorenson has the top starting spot! Sorenson turned in a qualifying lap of 28.921 seconds, an average speed of 165.928 miles per hour, to capture his first career pole position and was almost a mile-per-hour faster than the second-fastest qualifier. Clint Bowyer will start second in his RCR Chevrolet, turning in a lap of 29.035 seconds, at an average speed of 165.276 mph, to earn the outside pole, and join Sorenson on the front row. Last week’s race and pole winner, Carl Edwards will roll off third at Nashville. Tim Fedewa will start fourth and Denny Hamlin will start fifth and put three rookies in the top-five starting positions.
