LEFFLER, WINFUEL TEAM LOOKING FOR BETTER LUCK IN LOUDON
MOORESVILLE, NC (July 12, 2005) – After the rollercoaster weekend that the #32 WINFUEL Chevy endured in Chicago, Jason Leffler and the Braun Racing team are hoping to have better luck in Loudon this weekend.
With less than 50 laps to go in the USG Durock 300 at Chicagoland Speedway, Leffler was running in third position, in contention for the win, when a flat tire forced him to come to pit road for an unscheduled green-flag pit stop. The bad luck trapped Leffler one-lap down to the race leaders and ended his hopes of securing a solid finish.
“It was really disappointing to have such a great car and to not be able to be there at the end to compete for the win,” Leffler explained. “The WINFUEL guys gave me one of the best cars that I have ever driven, but unfortunately we had to come to pit road for an unscheduled stop close to the end of the race and that trapped us a lap down. At the time that we got the flat tire, we were running third and had already made our last pit stop, which put us in perfect position to compete for the win.”
In 2004, Jason Leffler started third and competed for the win throughout the Busch Series race at New Hampshire International Raceway, before eventually bringing home a solid third place finish. Leffler and the Braun Racing team hope to use the information that they have learned while working together during the past two races to improve upon Leffler’s 2004 finish.
"I am really looking forward to going back to New Hampshire, especially after finishing third there last year in the Busch Series race,” Leffler said. “Loudon is a fast, flat track where you need a good handling car that allows you to get into a rhythm and click off laps until the end of the race. The WINFUEL/Braun Racing guys have been working hard during the week to prepare the car, and at the track they have been working to adjust the #32 Chevy to my driving style. Between their equipment and my past success, I feel like we have everything necessary to win this weekend.”
This weekend the Braun Racing/WINFUEL team will again head north, this time to Loudon, New Hampshire. Live coverage of the New England 200 from New Hampshire International Speedway begins this Saturday, July 16 at 3:00 p.m. ET on TNT.
