Sam's Town 250 - Memphis Motorsports Park
Bowyer is the King in Memphis
Clint Bowyer did all that he could possibly do to make up the points he lost last week in Charlotte, dominating on his way to a win in the Sam’s Town 250 at Memphis Motorsports Park. Bowyer qualified in the 35th position for this race but was sent to the rear of the field prior to the green flag for making unapproved adjustments after spinning during his second qualifying lap. Bowyer raced his way through the field until he took the lead on lap 102, he then led the race three times for a total of 137 laps, earning the five bonus points for leading the most laps in the event. The race would come to a close with a green-white-checkered finish and nobody could touch Bowyer, as he pulled away to a 0.552-second win in overtime. This is Bowyer’s second career NASCAR Busch Series victory in 49 career starts, his first career series win came at Nashville Superspeedway in June earlier this year. Despite his impressive win, there was one thing that Bowyer could not control, the finishing position of points leader Martin Truex Jr. Truex finished the event in third place and now holds a 100-point lead over second-place Bowyer in the series point standings with only three races remaining. J. J. Yeley was the runner-up in the Sam’s Town 250, followed by Truex in third. David Green ended his day in fourth, while Carl Edwards finished fifth.
Truex Repeats as Pole Winner at Memphis
Martin Truex Jr. won his second consecutive pole position at Memphis Motorsports Park, winning the Busch pole for today’s Sam's Town 250. Truex, who won the event after starting from the pole here last season, qualified in 22.525 seconds, at an average speed of 119.867 mph, to capture his second pole in the last three races. This is the third pole of the season for the defending Busch Series champion. Johnny Sauter turned in a qualifying lap of 22.556 seconds, at an average speed of 119.702 mph, and will join Truex on the front row for the Sam's Town 250. Regan Smith qualified fourth, while Paul Menard will roll off from the fourth position. Rounding out the top five on the starting grid is Aaron Fike.
