Sauter Wins Rain-Shortened SBC 250 from the Pole
Before an announced crowd of 40,726, Johnny Sauter won the rain shortened SBC 250 at The Milwaukee Mile. Sauter overcame the inclement weather and a rough-driving penalty by NASCAR to emerge victorious in the first Busch event to be shortened by rain since the 2003 season.
This was Sauter's first win of the 2005 NASCAR Busch Series season and his third win of his Busch Series career. The event was called after 200 of the 250 scheduled laps, when rain first delayed the event, then finally washed it away at about a half past midnight. Sauter, who started from the pole, dominated the day by leading three times for a total of 162 of the race’s 200 laps. Sauter received the old black flag for “aggressive driving,” losing his lead after the penalty for wrecking Tony Raines on lap 113. Martin Truex Jr. took the Busch Series championship points lead by seven points over Reed Sorenson after finishing the event in the second position. Paul Menard finished third, while J.J. Yeley and David Stremme finished fourth and fifth respectively.
