NEWS AND NOTES FROM THE RAYBESTOS® ROOKIE CONTENDERS – NASCAR BUSCH SERIES
Reed Sorenson was the Raybestos® Rookie of the Race in the Stater Bros. 300 at California Speedway. Sorenson finished fifth, scoring his second top-five finish in seven career Busch Series starts and posting the best finish by a Raybestos® Rookie this season. He has taken top Raybestos® Rookie honors in both Busch Series races this season and leads Carl Edwards by four points (30-26) in the Raybestos® Rookie standings entering the Telcel Motorola Mexico 200 at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.
Sorenson is just the third Raybestos® Rookie to score a top-five finish at California, joining Scott Riggs and Steve Park. Riggs won the 2002 race while Park finished second in 1997.
A Raybestos® Rookie has now finished in the top-10 in five of the past six spring Busch races at California Speedway: Jay Sauter (tenth in 2000), Greg Biffle (sixth in 2001), Scott Riggs (first in 2002) and Kyle Busch (seventh in 2004).
Both Michel Jourdain and Boston Reid each led one lap (2.0 miles) at California Speedway. They join Carl Edwards (led once in one race for six laps, 15.00 miles) as Raybestos® Rookies who have led at least one lap in 2005.
