Telcel Motorola 200 pres. by Banamex - Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez
Truex Pulls Away to Win in Mexico City
Viva la Mexico! Viva la victory lane for Martin Truex Jr. Truex beat out the locals and road-course ringers from the states to win the inaugural Telcel Motorola 200 presented by Banamex at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, the first NASCAR sanctioned points race ever held on foreign soil. Truex, the defending Busch Series champion, dominated the historic event leading the most laps of the race, pacing the field three times for a total of 45 of the race’s 80 laps and pulling away to win by a whopping margin of 6.256 seconds over Kevin Harvick in second place. The win for Truex was the seventh of his career and comes in only his 52nd Busch Series start. Pole-sitter, and Mexico City native, Jorge Goeters led the first 24 laps until Truex took the lead at lap 25. Harvick finished in the runner-up position for the third consecutive Busch race and continues to hang on to the series points lead. Rookie Carl Edwards finished in the third position, while Shane Hmiel and Boris Said rounded out the top five in the finishing order. Adrian Fernadez, in his first ever NASCAR Busch Series start, was the highest finishing Mexican driver with a 10th-place finish. The time of the race was listed as 2 hours, 58 minutes and 49 seconds, while the race featured seven lead changes among six drivers. The event was slowed eight times for caution flags that lasted 22 laps.
Jorge Goeters Wins Pole at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez
Score one for the home team! Jorge Goeters, a native of Mexico City, won the inaugural Busch pole position for the Telcel Motorola 200 presented by Banamex at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. Goeters, who is driving the No. 66 BREWCO Ford normally piloted by Greg Biffle and is sponsored by Canel's/Scotia Bank this weekend in Mexico, put on quite a show in his first career NASCAR attempt, posting a qualifying lap of 87.696 seconds, at an average speed of 103.366 mph, around the 2.518-mile road course. Robby Gordon qualified in the second position but will have to start from the rear of the field after and engine change on Friday. The defending Busch Series champion, Martin Truex Jr. qualified in the third position, while road-course ace Boris Said will roll of forth.
