Two Wins in Two Busch Starts for Martin
The official name of the event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway was the Sam’s Town 300 but it very well could have been Jack’s Town 300. As in this town belongs to Jack Roush and his team of drivers. Rookie Carl Edwards put his Roush Ford on the pole and, from there, dominated the event, leading as many as six times for a race-high total of 125 laps. Edwards was literally leaving the field in his rear-view mirror until his right-rear tire blew with only 14 laps remaining in the event. Roush teammate Mark Martin took advantage of Edwards’ bad luck and turned it into his second straight Busch Series win in his second straight start. The win is the 47th of Martin’s Busch Series career, as he continues to extend the record for most Busch wins. Martin won by 1.412 seconds over Kevin Harvick, as Harvick finished second for the fourth consecutive week. David Stremme finished third, while Joe Nemechek finished fourth and Greg Biffle fifth.
Edwards Wins First Career Busch Pole
Series rookie Carl Edwards won his first career NASCAR Busch pole position, capturing the top starting spot for the Sam's Town 300 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Friday. Edwards qualified in 31.588 seconds, at an average speed of 170.951 mph, to win the Busch pole not long after qualifying 20th in his Nextel Cup Series car. Elliott Sadler, who also qualified on the outside pole for the Cup race, will also start from the second position in Saturday’s Busch race as well. Vegas native Kyle Busch will start third, while Shane Hmiel and Clint Bowyer round out the top-five starting positions on the starting grid.
