Dollar General 300 - Rookie Practice Quotes
RAYBESTOS® ROOKIE CONTENDER HAPPY HOUR QUOTES FOR THE DOLLAR GENERAL 300 NASCAR BUSCH SERIES RACE AT LOWE’S MOTOR SPEEDWAY, OCTOBER 13, 2005.
REED SORENSON, No. 41 DISCOUNT TIRE CO. DODGE (8TH): “We just had a close call there, spinning out. That was not one of the things that I wanted to try out. We’ve got a pretty good car. There’s just a lot of good guys out here running and I think we’ll be pretty good in the race. When we first got here today we were a little bit off and we got it better as the day went on. I think we’ll be pretty good in qualifying, I think we’ll be in the top 10, and I think we’ll be a little bit better in the race. We’ll see.” YOU PRACTICED AND QUALIFIED IN THE DAYLIGHT BUT WILL RACE AT NIGHT. HOW ARE YOU GOING TO KEEP UP WITH THE CHANGING TRACK CONDITIONS? “I think this place just gets faster. It’s going to be amazing fast on Friday night. I don’t know if the balance of the car will change a lot but it gets a lot faster. As far as the sun, it used to be where it would be a lot slower in the sun but I think that since they’ve redone the track here it’s not as bad. It’s not as temperature-sensitive as it was. I think we’re going to see it tonight in Cup qualifying; it’s going to be awesome fast, that’s for sure. We’ll just have to wait and see. We don’t really know.” HAVE YOU NOTICED ANY TIRE PROBLEMS? “We just ran over something on the right rear, that’s why we spun out, but nothing as far as the right front build or right rear build or anything like that. I guess we just ran over something. Other than that, we don’t have any problems.”
CARL EDWARDS, No. 60 CHARTER COMMUNICATIONS FORD (5TH): “The car is really, really good. I think we’re going to run really well. We’re going into our notes from the last time we ran here and hope that it was the same because the last time we ran here we really screwed up bad and over adjusted. We made a bunch of changes and just went too far. I think we’re going to use that knowledge and hopefully it pays off, hopefully it works.” DOES THE BUSCH CAR REALLY HELP THE CUP CAR THIS WEEKEND? “The Busch car is helping a lot. I haven’t been on this track since they grounded it again so the Busch car is a big help. I think that race tomorrow night is going to be huge.” YOU ARE IN A TIGHT BATTLE WITH REED SORENSON FOR RAYBESTOS ROOKIE OF THE YEAR IN THE BUSCH SERIES. HOW SPECIAL WOULD IT BE TO WIN THE AWARD? “I didn’t realize that. Boy, that’d be big to win Raybestos Rookie of the Year. We’re going to beat him [laughs].”
BRENT SHERMAN, No. 10 SERTA/COUNTING SHEEP FOR THE CURE FORD (12TH): “We’re real excited. We came and tested for two days. Actually, the second day I hit the wall and we still ran pretty good for most of the test. We knew we wanted to run good. We have a special paint scheme for the breast cancer awareness. My sponsor, Serta, is donating almost $300,000 to Susan G. Komen foundation. That was just practice and we need to make it happen tomorrow but judging by how good the car was today I think we’re going to be pretty decent tomorrow. The fact that we tested for two nights we kind of know what the track is going to do tomorrow night, temperature-wise, so that helps out a ton too. We just need to hopefully make a couple of small changes to where we can run real well in qualifying and the race tomorrow but I think we’re pretty much right there. We need to make two good solid laps tomorrow and then make 200 of them.” HOW DIFFICULT IS IT GOING TO BE TO POST TWO GOOD LAPS IN QUALIFYING? “We kind of did a qualifying run when we thought that the track was going to be similar to what it’s going to be tomorrow. Every day the track seems to be different. When we tested in the afternoon a couple weeks ago, we were pretty good and we came out here today and we were really tight. It’s very difficult. I don’t know why NASCAR does it this way but they do it and we just have to work with what we’ve got. That’s why my crew chief gets paid the big bucks. Tim [Shutt] did a great job with the car. I’m just still gaining trust in my guys and when they give me cars like this they make my job a whole lot easier.”
