Dollar General 300 - Brent Sherman Notes
COUNTING SHEEP FOR THE CURE™ – Serta Mattress Company and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation have teamed up to form a national partnership: Counting Sheep For The Cure™. As part of this initiative, Serta donated $290,000 to fight breast cancer and is offering limited edition pink mattress sets for the rest of the year. In honor of this partnership, NASCAR Busch Series driver Brent Sherman's Serta Ford will sport a special Counting Sheep for the Cure™ paint scheme in Friday's race at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Instead of the traditional silver Serta scheme, Sherman's No. 10 car has been painted pink and will feature the Komen Foundation's logo and the "Collector's Edition" pink Counting Sheep.
SHERMAN’S HISTORY AT LMS – In May’s Busch Series race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, Sherman started 17th and finished 34th after getting caught up in a late-race accident. In ARCA RE/MAX competition, Sherman has picked up two top-10 finishes at the track.
TESTING AT LMS – Sherman and the No. 10 Serta team recently spent two days testing at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Sherman brushed the wall early on the second day, but the team was able to make repairs to the car and he returned to the track later in the evening. At the end of the two-day test, the No. 10 was unofficially sixth fastest of the teams that participated in the session.
ppc RACING AT LMS – In six years of competition at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, the No. 10 ppc Racing team has picked up one win, five top-five and six top-10 finishes and led 30 laps.
CHASSIS INFORMATION – The No.10 Serta team is running chassis No. 1503 in Friday’s race. It was on track at Darlington Speedway and Michigan International Speedway earlier this year. The team will have chassis No. 5718 on the hauler as a backup for the event. The backup chassis has competed at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Nashville Superspeedway and Lowe’s Motor Speedway.
LAST RACE – Last Saturday at Kansas Speedway, Sherman started 24th and finished 22nd.
SHERMAN ON DRIVING A PINK CAR – “I’m proud that Serta has stepped up and gotten involved with such a great cause. Breast cancer affects millions of people across the country each year, so I’m more than happy to get behind the wheel of a pink car if it helps to raise awareness of the Komen Foundation and all its programs.”
SHERMAN ON RACING AT LMS – “We tested at Charlotte a couple weeks ago and had a pretty good run. There are a bunch of Cup Series regulars trying to make the show, but we should be able to post a solid time and have a good run.”
EVENT INFORMATION – Qualifying for the Dollar General 300 is scheduled for 2:35 p.m. EDT on Friday, and will be broadcast by SPEED Channel. Race time is set for 8 p.m. EDT and will be televised live on TNT and broadcast by MRN Radio.
SERTA, KOMEN FOUNDATION AND BRENT SHERMAN TEAM UP AT LOWE’S MOTOR SPEEDWAY
Concord, N.C. (Oct. 11, 2005) - In September, Serta Mattress Company joined forces with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation to form a national partnership: Counting Sheep For The Cure™.
“I’m proud that Serta has stepped up and gotten involved with such a great cause,” Sherman said. “Breast cancer affects millions of people across the country each year, so I’m more than happy to get behind the wheel of a pink car if it helps to raise awareness of the Komen Foundation and all its programs.”
In support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Serta has designed a limited edition line of pink mattress sets decorated with “For The Cure” ribbons in the upholstery. With any Perfect Sleeper mattress (pink or otherwise), purchasers will get a free “Collector’s Edition” pink Counting Sheep. The program started in September and will continue through Dec. 31.
“We are both honored and excited to be working with the Komen Foundation,” said Bob Sherman, president of Serta International. “The Komen Foundation has an outstanding record of initiating first-rate research projects and providing effective community programs that will help fight this devastating disease. Serta shares in the Foundation’s commitment to find a cure for breast cancer, which tragically will claim more than 40,000 lives this year.”
Also this month, Serta will join with the Komen Foundation to throw special Counting Sheep For The Cure™ “pajama parties” at selected retail stores in Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles and Milwaukee, where guests will be encouraged to visit the stores in their pajamas and partake in an array of fun activities. All funds raised will benefit breast cancer awareness in those five communities.
“Our partnership with Serta helps us to fund vitally needed breast cancer research and community- based education programs necessary to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer,” says Cindy Schneible, vice president of cause marketing and sponsorships for the Komen Foundation. “Serta’s donation will help save lives by helping to advance early detection of the disease.”
Qualifying is scheduled for 2:35 p.m. EDT on Friday and will be televised live by SPEED Channel. The race is set for 8 p.m. EDT and will be televised by TNT and broadcast by the Performance Racing Network.
