Meijer 300 presented by Oreo - Kentucky Speedway
Edwards Rides His Stallion to a Win at Kentucky
To say that it was Carl Edwards’ night would be an understatement. After missing last week’s race due to inclement weather, Edwards came back with a vengeance, utterly dominating the Meijer 300 Presented by Oreo at the Kentucky Speedway to capture his third victory of the 2005 NASCAR Busch Series season. Edwards led five times and all but 50 of the race’s 200 laps on his way to victory lane, but it was only his choice to pit under the caution on lap 169 while most cars stayed out. Edwards would restart back in the field but wasted little time working his way toward the front, until he finally passed Martin Truex Jr. on lap 199 to regain the lead and pulled away to a 0.690-second win. Edwards’ third victory comes in his 17th career start in the Busch Series. His previous victories this season came at Atlanta Motor Speedway on March 19 and at Richmond International Raceway on May 13. This was Edwards’ second career win at Kentucky, he won a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at here in 2003. Edwards now has six top-five NASCAR Busch Series finishes in 2005 and 11 top-10 finishes. Truex, the defending series champion, came home in second place, followed by last week’s winner, Clint Bowyer, in third. Points leader Reed Sorenson and Paul Menard rounded out the top-five finishing positions. With the win, Edwards nipped into the 96-point deficit held by Sorenson last week, Edwards remains in fourth place but now trails by 66 points.
Edwards Scores Busch Pole at Kentucky
After missing last week’s rain-delayed Busch Series race at Nashville, losing his coveted points lead in the process, Carl Edwards bounced back by shooting to the pole position for the Meijer 300 presented by Oreo at Kentucky Speedway. Edwards actually had the pole last week as well, as qualifying was rained out and the field was set by owner points, but missed the race when it was rescheduled for the same exact day and time as the Nextel Cup event, in which Edwards won. Edwards clocked in a qualifying time of 29.787 seconds, at an average speed of 181.287 mph, to win the pole. Rookie Jon Wood will join Edwards on the front row after a lap of 29.874 seconds, at an average of 180.759 mph. Martin Truex Jr. starts third followed by J.J. Yeley and Denny Hamlin in the top five.
