Kroger 200 - Raybestos® Rookie Notes

NEWS AND NOTES FROM THE RAYBESTOS® ROOKIE CONTENDERS – NASCAR BUSCH SERIES

  • Raybestos® Rookie Reed Sorenson scored his second career Busch Series win by capturing the July 30 Wallace Family Tribute 250 at Gateway International Raceway in Madison, Ill. Sorenson took the checkered flag .710 seconds ahead of second-place Mike Wallace and racked up his ninth top-five and 13th top-10 finish of the season. Sorenson led twice for 60 laps, the most of any driver, and took top rookie honors for the 11th time in 2005.
  • Sorenson and Carl Edwards are tied for the lead with 283 points in the Raybestos® Rookie standings entering the August 6 Kroger 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park in Claremont, Ind. This is the first tie for the lead in the standings since the program debuted in 1989.
  • Sorenson is third in the Busch Series championship standings, 84 points behind leader Martin Truex Jr. and 14 behind second-place Clint Bowyer. Edwards is fourth, 244 behind Truex.
  • This is the first season since 2002 that two or more Raybestos® Rookies have won in the same season.
  • Sorenson’s victory gives the 2005 Raybestos® Rookie class a total of five wins, equaling the most by a rookie class since inception of the program in 1989. The class of 2001 and 2004 also posted five victories.
  • A Raybestos® Rookie has now led the most laps in FOUR races this season. Sorenson also led the most laps at Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway in March while Edwards was dominant at Las Vegas and Kentucky.
  • DID YOU KNOW? At least one Raybestos® Rookie has finished in the top 10 in 21 of the 22 Busch Series races this season.
