Kroger 200 - Brent Sherman Notes

SHERMAN ENDS BUSY WEEK WITH FIRST TRIP TO IRP

August 2, 2005 CLERMONT, Ind. – NASCAR Busch Series rookie is quickly learning just how hectic life can be racing in one of the top divisions of auto racing.

After finishing 30th in last weekend’s race at Gateway International Speedway, he flew from St. Louis to New York where he spent Monday and Tuesday testing at Watkins Glen International in preparation for next week’s event.

Following two days of turning left and right around one of the few road courses on the series’ circuit, he will fly home to Illinois. Sherman will get to spend a little time there before leaving for Indianapolis on Thursday to participate in the Jeff Gordon Foundation Bowling Tournament. On Saturday, he will race the ppc Racing No. 10 Serta/Hickory Farms Ford Taurus in the Kroger 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park.

“My schedule is pretty hectic this week, but I’m looking forward to Saturday,” Sherman said. “All of the various commitments associated with being a driver can be overwhelming at times, but they’re all just a part of the job.

“It’d be nice to spend more time at home, but it’s just one of the trade-offs to get to do what I love for a living,” he added. “There are thousands of people across the country who would drop everything for the chance at a job like mine.”

Once he finishes up with testing and charity events, Sherman’s focus will be back on racing as he makes his first attempt at IRP on Saturday. The team struggled last weekend at Gateway, but Sherman managed to finish the race and brought the ill- handling car home in one piece. Heading into IRP, he’s looking for much better results.

“As strong as the car was at Pikes Peak, the team was starting to build momentum,” he said. “We missed the setup last weekend at Gateway and stumbled a bit. Going to IRP we’re looking to rebuild and get back to where we were a couple weeks ago.”

Qualifying for the Kroger 200 is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. local time (6:05 p.m. EDT) on Saturday and will be broadcast by SPEED Channel. Race time is set for 7:40 p.m. local time (8:40 EDT) and the event will be televised live by TNT and broadcast by MRN Radio.
