Kroger 200 - Indianapolis Raceway Park
Truex Wins at Indianapolis Raceway Park
Martin Truex Jr. emerged victorious on Saturday night at Indianapolis Raceway Park winning the Kroger 200 in a green-white-checkered finish. The win was the 12th career victory for the defending NASCAR Busch Series Champion and current points leader and his third win in the last six races. Truex and the rest of the field had to wait out a red-flag period that lasted 1 hour and 35 minutes for rain that put a stoppage to the event on lap 59. Truex, starting from the fifth position, led the most laps on the night, leading 94 of the races 204 laps, after taking the lead on lap 111 and holding on until the checkered flag. Tyler Walker had an accident in turn four on lap 197 which would send the race into overtime, setting up the green-white-checkered finish. Truex then outran Clint Bowyer by 1.002 seconds to win his sixth race of the 2005 season and, in the process, gave Dale Earnhardt Inc. their 100th win. Bowyer came home in the runner up position after leading 40 laps on the day, while pole sitter Reed Sorenson led 49 laps and finished third. Ironically that is their positioning in the Busch Series points as well, and with the win, Truex holds an 85-point lead over second-place Bowyer and a 104-point lead over Sorenson in third. Jason Keller finished the race in fourth followed by David Stremme in fifth.
Sorenson Grabs IRP Busch Pole
Rookie sensation Reed Sorenson won the NASCAR Busch Series pole position for tonight’s Kroger 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park., as a nice way to follow up his win from last week at Gateway. For the 19-year-old rookie, it is his second career pole position, with his other coming earlier this season at Nashville. Sorenson’s lap was timed in 22.260 seconds, at an average speed of 110.943, to earn the top starting spot, in search of his second consecutive win and third of the season. David Stremme will join Sorenson on the front row of the starting grid, starting from the second position, while Ron Hornaday will start third followed by Robert Pressley and Tracy Hines in the top five.
