WALLACE LOOKS TO REVERSE DOVER FORTUNES

When Stacker 2 driver Kenny Wallace returns to Dover International Speedway this weekend, he hopes he will have the same success he enjoyed at his last race there with one exception, the final 10 laps. After starting fifth, Wallace had worked his way up to the top spot by lap 109. He would hold the lead for over 80 laps, and everyone thought Wallace was on his way to his first victory since 2001. The crew knew that Wallace was going to be close on gas, but according to their calculations, he could make it all but the final two-tenths of a mile. Unfortunately, their calculations were off, and Wallace ended the day 20th. Wallace is confident this year won’t be a repeat and that he will be battling for the win in the final laps of Saturday’s race.

Despite losing the win in the closing laps of last year’s race in Dover, Wallace still enjoys visiting “The Monster Mile.” In 19 starts, Wallace has posted 2 top-fives, 7 top-10s, and has completed 93% of the laps. Dover is another track where ppc Racing has enjoyed success. In 18 starts the team has won twice (including its first race at Dover), posted 7 top-fives, and 8 top-10s. They also have one pole and have started in the top-five eight times.

KENNY WALLACE IN THE POINTS
Kenny’s ninth-place finish in Charlotte enabled him to remain sixth in the standings for the third consecutive week. Wallace is only 15 points away from the top-five. He was also able to close the gap on leader Carl Edwards. Edwards now leads Wallace by 293 points. Prior to Charlotte, Wallace was 373 points behind. Owner Greg Pollex moved up one spot to eighth.

On Dover…
“Dover is one of those tracks where I led 88 laps last year and had the race won and ran out of gas. I am going back there with a new team and we are dedicating ourselves to getting a win there.

“I know it’s just a matter of a couple of little things to getting that first win. I really want it bad and it’s coming soon.”

Upcoming stretch…
“I kind of like off weekends but what happens is on Monday morning you are ready to go back racing. The off weekends are good for the team, but I like the races.

“After Dover we have good one- and two-day shows. I’m ready to get into the meat of the season. I am in better shape than most of the drivers out there, the heat is what I like, I feel like I handle it better than most.”

“We have to keep getting top-10s. I keep saying that when we mess up we have to salvage a top-10 and we have been able to do that. Dover is a good track for us. We are taking a good car there so we are pretty optimistic about how we will run.”
