Dover 200 - Dover International Speedway

Four in a Row for for Newman!
OK, this time it wasn’t even funny, the Rocketman was the dominant man on Saturday afternoon at the Monster Mile in Dover, Delaware. Ryan Newman completely dominated the Busch Series Dover 200 at Dover International Speedway from the pole, leading all but seven of the race’s 200 laps on the way to his fourth NASCAR Busch Series victory in his last four starts, tying Sam Ard’s same-season mark of four straight wins set in 1983. Newman’s four wins in succession came at Watkins Glen, Michigan, Bristol and Dover. Ard set the mark in 1983 with wins at South Boston on Sept. 17, Martinsville on Sept. 24, Orange County on Oct. 1 and Charlotte on Oct. 8. Dale Earnhardt Jr. holds the record for wins in consecutive starts with five, but over a span of three seasons. He won the final race in 2002 at Richmond, the only three races he entered in 2003 (both Daytona races and Talladega) and the season-opener at Daytona in 2004. This is Newman’s 21st start in the NASCAR Busch Series and his sixth this year. He has five career wins in the series. This is his second start at Dover. He won the pole in the fall race at Dover in 2001. Newman is the third driver to win from the Busch Pole at Dover, and the second to win from the pole in this event. Morgan Shepherd won from the pole in the fall race in 1986 and Joe Nemechek won from the pole in the spring race in 2003. Newman claimed the victory by 1.343 seconds over series regular Clint Bowyer in the second position. Jason Leffler crossed the finish line in third, followed by Reed Sorenson and Greg Biffle who finished fourth and fifth respectively. With his second-place effort, and Martin Truex’s late-race tire trouble, Bowyer tightened the points chase to just 26 points between the two drivers. Truex, the defending series champion, holds a 26-point lead over second-place Bowyer, 4,063-4,037 in the NASCAR Busch Series championship standings with six races to go.

Newman Backs Up Cup Win with Busch Pole at Dover
Ryan Newman is back in the NASCAR Busch Series this weekend, after taking a few weeks off. Newman made a splendid return to the series, by rocketing to the pole position for the Dover 200 at Dover International Speedway. Newman backs up last week’s win in the Nextel Cup Series with a pole today in the Busch Series. Newman turned in a qualifying lap of 23.015 seconds, at an average speed of 156.419 mph, to capture his second Busch Pole of the season and the eighth pole of his 20 career Busch series races, his last pole came July 9th at Chicago. This is Newman’s second pole at Dover. He secured the pole in his first start here at this race in 2001. Newman is the seventh driver to have earned two or more Busch Poles this season. Sixteen different drivers have won poles this year. On Saturday, Newman will be gunning for his fourth win in a row. He has won the last three NASCAR Busch Series races he has entered. He won at Watkins Glen, Michigan and Bristol. He is attempting to tie the series record of four consecutive wins held by Sam Ard (1983). Series points leader Martin Truex Jr. will join Newman on the front row after posting a lap in 23.124 seconds – at an average of 155.682 mph. Reed Sorenson will start third while J.J. Yeley will roll off fourth. Clint Bowyer, who sits second place in the point standings, will start from the fifth position.
