Winn-Dixie 250 pres. by PepsiCo. - Clint Bowyer Notes
Huntersville, N.C. (June 28, 2005) – With the 2005 NASCAR Busch Series season approaching the halfway point this weekend in Daytona Beach, Fla., ACDelco driver Clint Bowyer feels his team is carrying the right momentum. Since capturing their first win the only remaining goal for the second half of the season is to continue to close in on their quest for the NBS championship title. Bowyer, who is third in points, 41 markers out of the lead, is enjoying life in the fast lane and can’t wait to take to the high banks at Daytona International Speedway for Friday night’s running of the Winn-Dixie 250 presented by PepsiCo.
“At the beginning of the year our goal was to be top-five in points at this stage of the season,” said Bowyer. “We have obviously achieved that goal and have captured one win in doing so. The only goal left is the championship. If we can finish races ahead of Martin (Truex, Jr), Reed (Sorenson) and Carl (Edwards) then our sites on the championship only get clearer and a couple more wins are sure to follow.”
Along with the team’s chemistry right now comes a new found appreciation for life in the spotlight. With their recent success and consistency on the track the Real Car Guys have made their presence felt. They are now being viewed as one of the top teams to beat and with that Bowyer is slowly becoming a household name. Despite his surge in popularity the Emporia, Kan., native has remained grounded.
“Along with my first win and our team’s success comes more recognition,” says Bowyer. “It’s great for the fans and my sponsors, but I have to remember to stay focused on that championship. The guys I am battling each week are faced with the same challenges so there is no room to get caught up in the hype. We have a chance to do something special this year and we can’t let distractions get in our way.”

Thinking back on your first run there this season, what can you carry over to this race?
“Looking back on that race definitely frustrates me a little. We ran in the top-5, top-10 all day and then I slipped up in the pits a little. My guys gave me great stops and then I came in for our last stop and over shot my pits and tangled with Shawna Robinson enough to make me lose six positions. Our car became too tight also, so as long as I keep my focus on pit road and if we can nail our setup a little better it will be all good.”
Last weekend’s race has got to be eating at you still?
“It definitely is. That is why I can’t wait to get to Daytona. We definitely had the second place car in Milwaukee, but we still got a top-10 out of it. You have to remember to look at the big picture in this. Yeah I could have stayed out and chanced wrecking the best racecar we have to finish second, but we have to think about points as well. We still finished ahead of two of the three guys I am battling against for the championship which I think says a lot.”
