Winn-Dixie 250 presented by PepsiCo. - Daytona International Speedway

Truex Wins for First Time at Daytona
Defending champion Martin Truex Jr. threw caution to the wind and won a green-white-checkered shootout with Nextel Cup stars Kevin Harvick and Greg Biffle Saturday night at the Daytona International Speedway. The “big one” looked like it might skip this event but it happened with only two laps remaining, setting up the two-lap scrap for the win. The stage was set for a hair-raising finish when the 16-car accident prompted NASCAR to red flag the race while repairing a damaged cross-over gate in the wall. Truex, who led the most laps in the event by leading five times for a total of 68 laps around the 2.5-mile, high-banked track, did everything he could to keep Harvick behind him in the mad dash to the finish, including almost wrecking. The 25-year-old Truex had sparks flying when he and Harvick banged together on the backstretch, and both cars bobbled momentarily before the hard-charging duo regained control of their vehicles. Truex came across the finish line ahead of Harvick by only 0.131 seconds before a delighted crowd of fans and a national television audience. Truex and Harvick were followed by Biffle in the third position - NASCAR’s current Nextel Cup point leader - Kenny Wallace in fourth place and Clint Bowyer in the fifth position. The win was the first for Truex at Daytona in four starts. His best previous finish was third, last July, he has three consecutive top-five finishes at the track. Truex now has 10 wins in 67 career starts in the NASCAR Busch Series. This is Truex’s fourth Busch Series win of the season, with his other wins coming at Dover International Speedway, Talladega Superspeedway and in Mexico City. Truex extended his lead in the NBS points standings, he now leads Clint Bowyer by 71 points in what will now be his final Busch season. Truex later announced in victory lane that he has signed a contract to drive a Dale Earnhardt, Inc., Nextel Cup Chevrolet for the entire 2006 schedule next season.

Harvick Captures NBS Pole at Daytona
The NASCAR Busch Series drivers are used to one-day shows, so that is what the Winn-Dixie 250 at Daytona International Speedway became when all on-track activities were washed away on Thursday – including NBS qualifying – due to inclement weather. Kevin Harvick, the 2001 series champion, grabbed the pole position for the event later this evening, qualifying in 49.311 seconds, at an average speed of 182.515 mph. It was Harvick’s first pole position of the season and the 12th of his Busch Series career. Paul Menard will start from the second position, followed by J.J. Yeley and Brian Vickers in the top five.

Friday Schedule Revised at Daytona
Due to the inclement weather on Thursday at Daytona International Speedway, the schedule has been revised on Friday as follows:
8:00 AM - 9:00 AM NASCAR Busch Series Practice
9:10 AM - 10:30 AM NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Practice
