Stewart Wins Busch Series Season Opener at Daytona
Tony Stewart and his car owner Kevin Harvick teamed up with three laps to go and blasted past the dominant duo of Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Martin Truex Jr. to take the win in the Busch series season opener on Saturday afternoon. In taking the checkered flag for the Hershey's Take 5 300 at Daytona International Speedway, Stewart claimed his first-ever Busch series victory. Harvick finished second to the car that he owns, while Earnhardt came home in third. Truex crossed the stripe in third, followed by Robby Gordon in fifth. The Busch Series event lasted 1 hour, 59 minutes and 59 seconds, with Stewart having a winning average speed of 150.021 mph. The race was slowed five times for a total of 16 laps for caution flags, including one on the final lap that allowed the event to finish under caution. The lead changed hands 13 different times among seven drivers on the day.
Front Row Joe Takes 5th Daytona Busch Pole
It was just another Daytona pole for “Front Row Joe.” Joe Nemechek roared to grab the pole position for the NASCAR Busch Series Hershey's TAKE 5 300 at Daytona International Speedway on Friday afternoon, turning in a lap of 49.328 seconds, at an average speed of 182.452 mph. It was Nemechek’s fifth pole position at the historic Daytona track and the 17th of his Busch career. Kyle Busch will join Nemechek on the front row, starting from the outside pole, while Paul Wolfe was best-in-class as the highest qualifying Busch regular. Paul Menard and Reed Sorenson will round out the top five on the starting grid.
