Ameriquest 300 - Clint Bowyer Notes
Huntersville, N.C. (Aug., 30, 2005) – With nine races to go in the NASCAR Busch Series season, ACDelco driver Clint Bowyer is second in the point standings and needs to make up a 194 point deficit on series leader Martin Truex, Jr. The Emporia, Kan., native is confident Richard Childress Racing is giving him the kind of equipment to get the job done and is looking forward to returning to California Speedway where he finished fourth in his first start at the 2-mile oval in February.
“You couldn’t ask for better race cars right now,” said Bowyer. “Everyone back at the shop is carrying their weight and has the ACDelco Chevrolet on top of things right now. I think we keep getting better each and every week as a team and I am improving as a driver. I am just looking forward to the rest of the year and hunting that No. 8 car down for the championship. We had a great run there early in the year and are taking back the same car, so hopefully we will have the same success, if not better.”
When it comes to the 2005 NASCAR Busch Series championship, it's pretty much a two-man race between Truex and Bowyer. The 26-year old was the highest finishing Busch series regular last weekend in Bristol, Tenn., with a fourth place finish, but only picked up 10 points on Truex who finished sixth. All the Real Car Guys can hope for, is to continue finishing ahead of Truex and let the rest fall into place.
“We are running strong at this point in the season,” adds Bowyer. “We have been running in front of Truex here lately, but have just had a few unlucky breaks keep us from getting back to the winner’s circle. Our number one goal right now is to finish ahead of Truex in the points. But to do that, we cannot consume ourselves with what is going on with him. We have to go to the track and take care of our business and everything else will fall into place.”
Points of Interest…
No. 2 ACDelco driver Clint Bowyer on California Speedway …
“Fuel Mileage sometimes plays a key there, what can you do throughout the race to conserve fuel?”
“Just on cautions and stuff like that there are little things you can do to keep those butterflies shut and not use as much gas under the yellow. I think that is the most important thing and where you can save as much gas as possible. Other than that you are hammer down on a track like California. The carburetor is full boar that’s for sure.”
How hard will it be to make up 194 points on Truex?
“It will be hard, but it’s not impossible. Some of the Cup guys trying to make the Chase are setting a good example right now of how it needs to be done. The bottom line is we have to run better than the No. 8 car. We need to win races, finish strong, and stick to our plan. Our consistency has been our staple this season and if we continue to do what we have been doing, everything should work out just fine.”
