Ameriquest 300 - California Speedway

Edwards Cruises to California Busch Series Win
Carl Edwards’ weekend at California just keeps getting better. Just hours after winning his first ever NASCAR Nextel Cup pole position, Edwards won the Busch Series race at the California Speedway, after starting from the fourth position. Edwards took the lead for the final time when he passed Elliott Sadler on lap 120 and pulled away to score an effortless win in the Ameriquest 300. Edwards had built a lead of over six seconds when a caution flag flew on lap 135 for David Stremme’s spin in turn two, bunching up the field and giving everyone one more shot at Edwards on a restart with 13 laps remaining. Edwards would have none of it, he ran away to a 1.710-second victory to score his fourth win in this his rookie year on the Busch circuit. Edwards’ average speed for the race was 139.104 mph. This time Edwards performed his signature backflip in victory lane, instead of on the frontstretch, where he has executed all of his flips so far in his career. Edwards also did something else very special in victory lane, he dedicated the race and all of his winnings to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Greg Biffle, Edwards’ Nextel Cup teammate, finished in the runner-up position, while Clint Bowyer had a strong finish and ended up in the third position. Johnny Sauter finished fourth, followed by Kasey Kahne in the fifth position. Biffle led the most laps during the event, leading three times for a total of 59 laps, while Edwards led three times for a total of 52 laps. Despite missing a race due to a scheduling conflict, Edwards moved into third in the point standings, while Bowyer cut into the point’s lead held by Martin Truex Jr. to now trail by 142 points.
