Stater Bros. 300 - California Speedway

Martin Dominates in Return to Busch Series
For Mark Martin it was just like old times. Martin, celebrating his “Salute to You” farewell tour in his final season of full-time racing, added to his record Busch Series win total with a dominating performance on Saturday afternoon in Fontana. Martin pulled away from Kevin Harvick on a late restart to win by a margin of .629 seconds to take the win in the Stater Bros. 300 at California Speedway. Martin led six times for a total of 102 of the event’s 150 laps, taking the five bonus points for leading the most laps. Tony Stewart, last week’s winner, led the second most number of laps, leading four times for 20 laps. Harvick finished in the runner-up spot for the second consecutive week, while Shane Hmiel was best-in-class as the highest finishing Busch regular, coming home in third place. Clint Bowyer finished in the fourth spot while rookie Reed Sorenson rounded out the top five.

Stewart Sets Track Record to Win Busch Pole at California
Tony Stewart carried over his momentum from victory lane last week at Daytona to the Busch pole position this week at Fontana. And he did it in record-breaking fashion, Stewart led a brigade of 13 drivers to break the California Speedway track record, and will lead the field to the green flag for the Stater Bros. 300 later today. Stewart’s lap of 38.722 seconds, at an average speed of 185.941 mph, gave him his first pole of the young season. JJ Yeley will join Stewart on the front row, starting from the outside pole, while Mark Martin and Reed Sorenson start from row two.
