USG Durock 300 - Jeremy Mayfield Notes

Jeremy Mayfield/Miller High Life Light Fast Facts
USG Durock 250/Chicagoland Speedway

Race Information – Event: USG Durock 250; Race: Saturday, July 9, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. EST on NBC; Track: Chicagoland Speedway; Qualifying: July 8, 2005 at 5:05 p.m. EST on SPEED; Track Length: 1.5 – mile D shaped tri-oval

Mayfield back behind the wheel – Jeremy Mayfield will be back behind the wheel of the No. 64 Miller High Life Light Dodge this weekend at Chicago. He finished 11th last weekend at Daytona; his best finish since finishing sixth earlier this year at Bristol. This will be the second weekend in a row Mayfield will pull double-duty with his No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Charger; making his schedule even more hectic then usual.

On Location - The 36-year old Cup Series veteran can be seen with his NBS car owner, Rusty Wallace at the Empress Casino in Joliet, IL this Thursday night from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. for a “story telling” session with the Miller High Life Legends.

Chassis No. 6406 – Blake Bainbridge and his MHLL team will take Chassis No. 6406 to the track this weekend in Chicago. Bainbridge brought car No. 06 to the Milwaukee test earlier this month with Cup Series veteran, Bill Elliott but didn’t like the way the car handled on the track. They brought it back to the shop to put a new body and clip on it, and are looking forward to bringing it to the track this weekend at Chicago. This is the same car that sat on the pole at Loudon last year with McMurray.

Testing 1,2,3 – Bainbridge and crew will head to Gateway for a two-day test on July 19 & 20th in preparation for the Wallace Family Tribute 250. Car owner, Rusty Wallace will drive his No. 64 Miller High Life car with a special paint scheme featuring the famous St. Louis Arch landmark. Wallace will compete in his hometown with both brothers, Kenny and Mike, in honor of the family’s history to the sport of NASCAR and the city of St. Louis.

Quotes:

Mayfield on 11th place finish at Daytona…“The car ran 10 times better for this Daytona race than it did in February. Blake and the guys did an excellent job with the car. We were second there on that last restart but my car started to get loose and I just couldn’t hold on to maintain a spot in the top-10. But it was a good night for us; we came out of there with an 11th place finish and didn’t tear up any of our equipment.”

Blake Bainbridge on Chicago …“We’re taking a car that we haven’t raced yet this year to Chicago this weekend. We tested this car at Milwaukee, but didn’t like the way that it ran in race trim. So we came back to the shop and cut the body off. I think it will run well at Chicago and I’m looking forward to coming home with a top-five finish with Jeremy this weekend.”

Blake Bainbridge on the challenges of switching Cup drivers each week…“It definitely creates some challenges as a crew chief. You get used to working with one driver and the way he does things, and then you have to switch to a different one the next week. But all of these Cup drivers are extremely talented and can give me good feedback on how the car feels.”
