USG Durock 300 - Jimmie Johnson Notes

JIMMIE JOHNSON
NASCAR BUSCH SERIES
NO. 48 LOWE’S / KOBALT AIR COMPRESSORS CHEVROLET
CHICAGOLAND PREVIEW

JIMMIE JOHNSON COMPETING IN TWO SERIES THIS WEEKEND: Jimmie Johnson returns to the scene of his first NASCAR win this weekend. Johnson will drive the No. 48 Lowe’s / Kobalt Air Compressors Chevrolet in Saturday’s Busch race at Chicagoland Speedway. Driving the No. 92 Chevrolet for Herzog Motorsports, Johnson won this race on July 14, 2001, marking his first NASCAR victory and the only Busch Series win of his career.

This weekend’s race will be Johnson’s sixth Busch Series start of 2005. In addition to driving the No. 48 Lowe’s/Kobalt Tools Air Compressors Chevrolet this season, Johnson is also driving the No. 5 Lowe’s Chevrolet in select Busch Series events. At Darlington Raceway in May, Johnson drove the No. 5 to his first career Busch Series pole position.

JOHNSON:

(ON CHICAGO, AND RACING IN THE BUSCH SERIES THERE) “I want to get a Busch win. That’s the first goal. I’ve been in a few (races) this year and I’ve had a lot of fun with it. Going back to Chicago is going to be a lot of fun for me and for Chad because it’s his hometown track. I’m looking forward to it. We’ve been close to winning there in the Cup car. It’s where I did win my first Busch race and who knows, maybe it can be a place I can get my second one.”

(HOW IMPORTANT WAS THAT BUSCH WIN AT CHICAGO IN YOUR CAREER?) “It came at a perfect time in my career. I really needed that win for myself – I was already under contract with Hendrick Motorsports – but (needed it) for the racing community to show I could win a race. So in my eyes, it was a very important day to win there. We came under pressure from Ryan Newman late in the race but was still able to get it done. It was a huge moment in my career.”

CHASSIS INFORMATION- Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 327 – This chassis is a new addition to the Hendrick Motorsports stable. Johnson drove this chassis to a fifth-place finish at Dover International Speedway in June.
