Aaron's 312 - Atlanta Motor Speedway
Edwards Flips Over First Busch Series Win
When Carl Edwards filled the open seat in Jack Roush’s unsponsored Nextel Cup No. 99 ride and Charter wanted to make a run at a Busch Championship with Greg Biffle, Biffle decided that he did not want to do two full seasons again. Biffle made the move to another Busch Series team that would allow him to run a limited schedule, leaving the No. 60 car vacant. Now that Biffle was happy, the thought now in the back of everyone’s mind was, ‘Who is going to drive the 60 car?’ The answer, and it has been obvious from the get-go, was Carl Edwards, he was happy to run double-duty, and NASCAR even let him run for Rookie of the Year in the Busch Series but not in the Cup Series! How has everything been working out for Carl? You might ask, well everything is going great especially on a day like today! Saturday morning, Edwards won his second straight pole position, then later on that Saturday afternoon, Edwards won his first career Busch Series race. In order to win the Aaron's 312 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, Edwards had to beat Tony Stewart by 1.192 seconds. Edwards led the event three times for 47 laps, Jimmie Johnson led the most laps on the day, leading eight times for a total of 90 laps. Tony Stewart got the ‘Kevin Harvick Award’ for finishing second in a Busch Series event. Harvick had finished in the second position in all four previous races, wear it with honor Tony. Johnson was strong but still came away with a third-place finish. Greg Biffle and Michael Waltrip rounded out the top-five in the scoring order.
Another Busch Pole for Edwards
Carl Edwards won the pole position for the Aaron's 312 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, just a tick off the track record. Edwards was able to turn in a qualifying lap of 28.971 seconds, at an average speed of 191.364 mph, to score his second consecutive pole position. JJ Yeley qualified on the outside pole and will start from the second position. Jimmie Johnson qualified in the third position, while Jon Wood and Clint Bowyer round out the top-five starting spots.
