Harvick Ends Season With a Fourth-Place Finish

HOMESTEAD, FLA. (Nov. 20) – REESE’S Racing driver Kevin Harvick ended his NASCAR Busch Series season in typical fashion with a fourth-place finish at Homestead-Miami Speedway. It was his 14th top five of the season and the 64th of his Busch Series career.

“The REESE’S Chevy was really loose, but really fast all day,” Harvick said. “We had a few problems in the pits today that really set us back. Fortunately, we were able to make up some ground on a gas-and-go stop and finished the race fourth.”

Harvick started the Ford 300 in the 16th spot. When the green flag flew over Homestead-Miami Speedway to start the race, Harvick was on the move through the field, and by lap 30 he had cracked the top five.

On lap 39, the second caution period of the day began. Harvick brought the REESE’S Chevy to pit road for the first time of the race. The REESE’S team made small adjustments to help with a loose-handling car, changed four tires and filled the No. 21 with fuel. Harvick returned to the track in the eight spot. Fortunately, the REESE’S Chevy was one of the fastest cars on the track and “Happy” had the REESE’S Chevrolet back in the top five by lap 65 of 200.

On lap 69, the REESE’S Racing team brought the No. 21 Chevy to pit road for its second pit stop of the day. The team made another round of adjustments to help with a loose-handling race car, changed four tires and filled it with fuel. However, during the pit stop, the left rear tire lost a lug nut and Harvick lost 17 spots. He returned to the track in the 19th position.

At the mid-point of the race, Harvick had the REESE’S Chevy back in the top 10, but knew he needed to do something to get back in the top-five pack of cars. When the sixth caution period began, he decided on a gas-and-go pit stop. This strategy helped him move into the fourth spot on the grid.

NASCAR Nextel Cup star Ryan Newman won his sixth race in only nine starts. Greg Biffle finished second, and he was followed by Mark Martin, Harvick and Paul Menard, respectively.

Martin Truex Jr. finished seventh and won the Championship by 68 points, as Bowyer finished behind him in eighth place.

The REESE’S Racing team finished fourth in the team standings during one of the most competitive seasons in Busch Series history.

Next season, REESE’S, Harvick’s sponsor in the No. 21, will join GM Goodwrench as co-primary sponsors next year on Harvick’s No. 29 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series car.
