Robert Pressley Quotes

On Talladega: “To win a race at Talladega, you need three things: A good motor, a body that cuts through the air and, most important, a lot of luck. Your ability to finish a race there is more dependent on everyone else’s ability than yours. If a guy five cars ahead of you makes a mistake, it usually takes out the next 10 cars behind him. With that in mind, the best place to be is up front. The first five or six cars are generally more patient and willing to settle things at the end of the race.”

On the season: “For a new team, we’ve come a long way in the first seven races. We’ve improved every week and it shows in the way we’ve moved up in the Busch Series standings. Talladega is an important race for us because it’s so easy to get knocked out of the race. If we get through this one in one piece, I think it sets up the next couple months pretty good for us.”

Crew Chief Steve Plattenberger Quote

On Talladega: “Restrictor plates take away a lot of the latitude a crew chief has to find speed in the car. We spend weeks working on every inch of the car for races at Daytona and Talladega, because a sixteenth of an inch here and there on a fender makes a big difference aerodynamically. The challenge is to make the car as sleek as possible, but make sure it’s still drivable.”
