Truex Tames Talladega
The scene seemed all too familiar; Junior put the No. 8 Chevrolet in victory lane at Talladega Superspeedway. But there was a small difference this time around, youngster Martin Truex Jr. was behind the wheel of the Chance 2 Chevy, taking the win in the Aaron’s 312. Truex outran his boss and mentor Dale Earnhardt Jr. to take his second career Busch series win. While Robby Gordon paced the field for 46 of the event’s 117 laps, Truex held the lead for 29 laps, including the final 23. Earnhardt crossed the finish line in second place, giving Chance 2 the top two finishing positions. Ron Hornaday finished in the third position, followed by rookie Kyle Busch and Jason Leffler in the top five.
Bowyer Wins NBS Pole at Talladega
Rookie Clint Bowyer claimed his first career pole position on Thursday afternoon, grabbing the top starting position for the Aaron's 312 at Talladega Superspeedway. Bowyer toured the 2.66-mile superspeedway in 51.972 seconds, at an average speed of 184.253 mph, to earn the pole in only his third Busch series start of the season. Bowyer’s teammate Ron Hornaday will start from the outside pole, giving the starting grid an all-RCR front row. Martin Truex will roll off from the third spot, while Robby Gordon will start fourth.
