Notes:

  • The Emerson 250 will be Gordon’s 20th Busch Series start in the Fruit of the Loom Chevrolet in 2004 and his second at Richmond International Raceway. Gordon started 10th in the Funai 250 in May, which has been his best starting position on a short track this season.

  • The team will take Chassis No. 03 to Richmond this weekend. The Fruit of the Loom Racing Team used the same car at Michigan (12th), Chicagoland (sixth), and both Nashville races (fifth and 14th).

  • Entering the race at Richmond, Gordon’s best finish in four short track races this year is 15th at Indianapolis Raceway Park.

  • The Fruit of the Loom Chevrolet will be powered by Richard Childress Racing engines and will be pitted by crew members from RCR’s No. 31 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Chevrolet.

  • Gordon has scored three top-five and seven top-10 finishes this season in the No. 55 Fruit of the Loom Chevrolet, with his career- best finishes (third) coming at Daytona and Texas.

  • Entering the Emerson 250, Gordon has led six races this season for a total of 100 laps: Daytona-February (nine), Nashville-April (nine), Talladega (46), Dover- June (10), Daytona-July (12), and Chicagoland (14). He led the most laps at Talladega, the only time he has led the most laps in a Busch race this season.

    Gordon’s Comments on Richmond…

"It's always very important to qualify up front, and perhaps more important at a place like Richmond than other tracks. If you start at the back, you can find yourself a lap down in a hurry if the leader gets hooked up and there is a long green-flag run at the start. We'll go up there looking for a solid top-10 starting spot, but with Frances coming up through the Carolinas and into Virginia, we may have to start by points which would put us in the middle of the pack. We'll be okay from that spot, but we hope to get qualifying in and start up front.

“Richmond is one of the most exciting tracks on the circuit, and I've run well there in the past in the Cup car. I have fond memories of coming from four laps down there a year ago in the Cingular Wireless car and almost winning, so getting around that place has never been a problem. We know what it takes to get a good set up under the car, and I would expect to see the Fruit of the Loom Chevrolet up front all night. I think Richmond is one of the tracks that experience really shows given how tricky it can be, so I'm real optimistic about Friday night.”
