Emerson Radio 250 - Richmond International Raceway
Gordon Claims First Busch Win at Richmond
Nextel Cup regular Robby Gordon, who has scored three wins in NASCAR’s top series, was able to claim his first career Busch series win on Friday night. Gordon used a little good fortune to take the lead in the waning laps of the Emerson Radio 250 at Richmond International Raceway. Gordon was in the third position when Martin Truex Jr. attempted to pass leader Casey Atwood with 15 laps to go. Truex got loose and slid up into Atwood, sending both cars high up the track, allowing Gordon to dip underneath and take the lead. Gordon then held off a hard-charging Atwood to win the Busch series event by .177 seconds. Gordon’s first NBS win comes in his 23rd career start in the series. Pole-sitter Kasey Kahne dominated the first half of the race, leading the first 152 of the race’s 250 laps, until pit strategy put Atwood in the lead for the next 83 laps. Atwood finished in the second position, followed by Truex in third. Jason Leffler and rookie Kyle Busch rounded out the top five in the finishing order.
Kahne Grabs Richmond NBS Pole
Kasey Kahne will start the Busch series Emerson Radio 250 at the Richmond International Raceway from the pole position. Kahne, the Nextel Cup rookie and part-time driver of the No. 38 Dodge, won his first NBS pole of the season after turning a qualifying lap in 21.147 seconds, at an average speed of 127.678 mph, around the ¾-mile short track. Rookie Kyle Busch, who dominated in the first trip to Richmond earlier this season, will start the event from the outside pole. Robby Gordon qualified in the third position, while Ashton Lewis and Kevin Harvick roll off from the top five.
