Bashas' Supermarket 200 - Phoenix International Raceway

McMurray Claims Victory at Phoenix
Jamie McMurray used a late-race restart to pass Kyle Busch and went on to win the Bashas' Supermarket 200 at Phoenix International Raceway. Busch, who had dominated the Busch series event, couldn’t hold off McMurray on a restart with only seven laps to go as McMurray used a daring outside pass to take the lead. An accident with three laps to go would force the event into a green-white-checkered finish, the third consecutive in the series. McMurray held off Busch by .261 seconds to capture the victory, his second on the 2004 season. The win is the sixth career win for McMurray and the first Busch series win for owner Chip Ganassi. Busch led the most laps on the day, leading six times for a total of 151 of the event’s 205 laps, but fell just short for the second week in a row. Points leader Martin Truex Jr. edged closer to the series championship with a third-place finish, taking a 161-point lead into Darlington. Robby Gordon came home in the fourth position, followed by Greg Biffle in fifth. The race only had four leaders in the event and was slowed for 42 laps due to nine caution flags.
