Pepsi 300 - Nashville Superspeedway

Right Place at Right Time, Waltrip Inherits Nashville Win
As the old saying goes, “It is better to be lucky than good.” And after visiting victory lane on Saturday at Nashville Superspeedway, Michael Waltrip stated, “We were lucky for sure.” Waltrip was running in the sixth position with two laps remaining in the Pepsi 300, with rookies Clint Bowyer and Kyle Busch battling for the lead. Bowyer made contact with the leader Busch who started to spin, while Bowyer, Johnny Benson and Robby Gordon were collected in the melee. Waltrip drove through the smoke, and around a slowing Johnny Sauter, to take his first Busch series win since last season at Bristol. The win is Waltrip’s first at Nashville and the 11th of his Busch series career. Waltrip also vaulted in the series point lead, holding an eight-point advantage over David Green.

Truex Wins Nashville Pole
Martin Truex Jr. will start the Pepsi 300 at the Nashville Superspeedway from the pole position, following a record-breaking performance. Truex, along with 21 other drivers, eclipsed the previous track record set last season. Truex earned the top starting spot with a lap of 28.819 seconds, at an average speed of 166.515 mph. It is the second pole position of the season for Truex, who also won the pole for the season-opening event at Daytona. Johnny Benson will start from the outside pole, while Bobby Hamilton Jr. and Jason Keller will start their Fords from the second row.
