Harvick Holds Off Kahne to Win in Vegas
Kevin Harvick was able to hold off Kasey Kahne to capture the victory in the Sam’s Town 300 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Harvick took the lead on lap 187 and held off the hard-charging Kahne by .119 seconds to become the third winner in three races this season. Matt Kenseth led the most laps on the day, pacing the field for 68 laps, and appeared to have the day’s strongest car until contact with Johnny Sauter and Dave Blaney with 21 laps remaining damaged his race car. Kahne, who finished second in the Nextel Cup race last week at Rockingham, put another second-place finish on his resume. David Stremme came home in third, followed by Michael Waltrip and Bobby Hamilton Jr. in the top five.
Bliss to Start from Sam's Town 300 Pole
Mike Bliss will start the Sam's Town 300 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway from the pole position, his first top-starting spot in his Busch series career. Bliss turned a qualifying lap in 31.535 seconds, at an average speed of 171.238 mph, to set a new Las Vegas track record. Bliss eclipsed the record set by Matt Kenseth in 2001. Bobby Hamilton Jr. and Kasey Kahne qualified in the exact same time, with Hamilton getting the outside pole position based on 2003 owner points. Kahne starts from the inside of the second row, joined by Martin Truex Jr. on the outside of row two.
