Rookie Busch Wins Third of the Season
This time, gas wasn’t a problem. One week after running out of fuel while leading with four laps remaining, Kyle Busch took the victory in the Meijer 300 at Kentucky Speedway. Busch, who started from the rear of the field on Saturday night following a Happy Hour crash, passed Greg Biffle with three laps remaining and held on to take the win. The three laps were the only laps that he led all night but included the most important one, the one that produced the checkered flag. Busch won by 1.274 seconds over Biffle, who settled for the runner-up position. Mike Bliss finished in third, followed by Ron Hornaday and Jason Keller in the top five.
Another Pole Position for Truex
Points leader Martin Truex Jr. won yet another pole position on Friday afternoon, winning the top starting spot for the Meijer 300 presented by Oreo at Kentucky Speedway. Truex not only won the pole at Kentucky but he shattered the track record in the process. Truex turned a fast lap of 29.983 seconds, at an average speed of 180.102, to break the previous track record held by Stacy Compton. The pole is the fifth for Truex this season and his second in a row. Rookie Kyle Busch will start from the second position, followed by Bobby Hamilton Jr. and Jason Leffler in row two.
