Kroger 200 - Tyler Walker Notes

READY FOR RACE TWO: WALKER JOINS BACE AT IRP
Former World of Outlaws Winner Pilots The Outdoor Channel Chevy at Indy

MOORESVILLE, NC (August 4, 2004) – After competing in his NASCAR Busch Series debut last weekend at Pikes Peak, Tyler Walker will climb behind the wheel of Busch Series entry for the second race in a row. This weekend Walker joins the No. 74 BACE Motorsports Team as the driver of The Outlaws on The Outdoor Channel Chevrolet. The World of Outlaws events are aired every Wednesday on The Outdoor Channel at 8:00 pm EST.

The Outdoor Channel, sponsor of the No. 74 Chevrolet, will spotlight its television partnership with The Outlaws this weekend at the Kroger 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park with a special WoO paint scheme replacing the traditional forest scheme piloted by Tony Raines each week. With the assistance of painters and products from SEM Products, Inc., The Outlaws on The Outdoor Channel Chevy will come to life under the lights at IRP.

Tyler Walker on The World of Outlaws, IRP and joining the BACE Team…

“To climb behind the wheel of The Outdoor Channel Chevrolet at IRP is a big deal for me. The coolest thing is to be tabbed to represent The World of Outlaws in a prominent NASCAR event. The success I enjoyed in The Outlaws Series has been invaluable to me in continuing to advance my racing career. This sport is a lot of who you know in addition to your ability on the track and I was able to make some great connections while competing regularly in the Outlaws Series.”

“We had a great test up here with the 74 Team at IRP. I think Mark (Tutor, crew chief) and I worked together really well and the communication between us seemed natural so that is reassuring to me. IRP is a great track for me to make my second start in the Series because of the amount of laps I have run here. As a new driver in the Busch Series, coming to a track you are familiar with gives you a great amount of confidence. Then the main challenge becomes how you adjust your driving style to running a Busch car there versus running a Silver Crown car for example.”

“The most important thing for me the remainder of this season is to get seat time in a Busch car whether it’s in testing or in a race. Obviously, I’m competitive by nature so I’d rather be racing but I know that the more seat time I can get this season at different tracks, the better position I will be in when I land in a more consistent situation. That’s why I am thankful The Outdoor Channel selected me for this opportunity. It’s exciting to know that people are watching you and respect what you can do behind the wheel of a race car.”

Wade Sherman, Senior Vice President of The Outdoor Channel, on Walker and WoO…

“Audience response has been tremendous since we’ve added The World of Outlaws Series to our Wednesday Night Horsepower block. What better city than Indianapolis, the home of open wheel racing, to run a World of Outlaws paint scheme and serve notice to the racing community that The Outdoor Channel is the new TV home of The Outlaws.”

“We’re excited to have a previous World of Outlaws winner behind the wheel for this race. Tyler has enjoyed great success in his growth through the World of Outlaws ranks, and has started to make his mark on pavement with his participation in the NASCAR Busch and Craftsman Truck Series. His aggressive style and determination typify the mindset of the Outlaw racer, and we’re pleased to play a key role in his transition to one of NASCAR’s premier divisions.”

BACE FAST FACTS

  • The Ride… BACE Motorsports crew chief Mark Tutor selected chassis #7430 for this weekend’s upcoming Kroger 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park. This chassis has only seen competition once this season for the No. 74 Team but was a competitive entry for the BACE camp in 2003.
  • Keeping Good Company… Currently BACE Owner Bill Baumgardner is tied with only one other car owner for the most wins at Indianapolis Raceway Park - seven-time NASCAR champion Dale Earnhardt. Baumgardner and Earnhardt each have two car owners victories to their credit with Baumgardner’s wins coming in back-to-back seasons with two-time Busch Series Champion Randy Lajoie. On the other hand, Earnhardt had the help of two drivers to reach his double. Ron Hornaday and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. each scored a victory for the legendary driver consecutively in 1998 and 2000.
  • Staying on Track… Tyler Walker will also compete in the USAC Silver Crown Race this Thursday evening at IRP. Walker, who drives the No. 19 machine, is competing in a limited Silver Crown schedule for car owner Kasey Kahne, a NEXTEL Cup Series driver for Evernham Motorsports. In his most recent Silver Crown event, Walker brought home a top-five finish at Pikes Peak International Raceway over the July 4th weekend. His best finish of the season, second, came in the season opener at Phoenix International Raceway.
