NASCAR Busch Series Debut: Reed Sorenson and sponsor Discount Tire Co. will be making their NASCAR Busch Series debut at Indianapolis Raceway Park when Sorenson attempts to qualify the No. 41 Discount Tire Dodge for the Kroger 200.

Making the calls: Veteran Busch Series crew chief Brian Pattie takes the helm of the newly created Busch Series team for Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates. Pattie will oversee the eight-race program this season with Sorenson and Nextel Cup drivers Casey Mears and Jamie McMurray.

IRP: Sorenson has competed twice on the .686-mile oval in the American Speed Association Series. He raced last weekend at IRP in his ASA car where he qualified seventh and finished sixth. He finished fifth in his debut at IRP in the ASA Series in 2003.

On his Busch Series debut… “I am so excited about this weekend, I don’t think it has sunk in yet,” said Sorenson. “Ever since I started racing, I hoped that one day I would get the chance to run in a NASCAR Series. It has been a goal of mine. It’s hard to believe that it’s this weekend and I am running in the Discount Tire Dodge for Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates.”

On IRP… ”We got a chance to test at IRP in the Discount Tire Dodge, and I think we were pretty good. We were really good on long runs, and I think I can pick up some time in qualifying. We only ran a few qualifying laps, but we got the chance to do two, 50-lap runs. The second day we tested there was no one else there, so we really had nothing to compare our times to.

“I ran at IRP last weekend in the ASA Series and learned things that I think will really help me this weekend. About halfway through the race I began trying different lines and ways to pass on the track because most of the time you are running nose-to-tail with the other cars. Some of the things I tried during the ASA race seemed to work great, and that kind of racing information I can utilize in the Busch car as well.”
