Ford 300 - Homestead-Miami Speedway

Harvick Wins NBS Finale at Homestead
In the sixth green-white-checkered finish in the Busch series this year, Kevin Harvick emerged as the victor in the final race of the 2004 season. Harvick, the 2001 NBS champion, put an end to Jamie McMurray’s win streak, holding off McMurray by .218 seconds to win the Ford 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Harvick had the car to beat on this Saturday in Miami, as he moved from his 12th starting position into the lead on lap 75. Harvick went on to lead the most laps in the event, leading three times for a total of 108 laps. Harvick, who has had not had the kind of year that he hoped for, has gone winless on the Nextel Cup circuit and had only one Busch win before Saturday’s race. The trip to victory lane is Harvick’s second this season and the 13th of his Busch series career. McMurray, who had won the last two NBS races, finished second, while 2004 Rookie of the Year Kyle Busch ended his rookie season in the third position. 18-year-old Reed Sorenson came home in fourth, while Todd Bodine rounded out the top five in the finishing order. The 2004 Busch series champion Martin Truex Jr. finished ninth in the event. The Ford 300 lasted 2 hours, 45 minutes and 22 seconds, while being slowed by 12 caution flags for a total of 51 laps.
