Stacker 200 presented by YJ Stinger - Rookie Post-Race Quotes
Where the Raybestos Rookies finished at Dover:
Unofficial Raybestos Rookie Standings after Dover:
***K. Busch trails Busch Series championship standings leader Martin Truex Jr. by 152 points following the Stacker 200 at Dover***
J.J. YELEY, #18 MBNA CHEVROLET: "We had a left rear tire going down I thought I felt something kind of funny when we were a lap down leader on the restart, but it's real hard to tell. You've got to scuff the tires so hard and there's a lot of rubber on the racetrack. I hate that we had a bad day for MBNA. It's just a tough break."
KYLE BUSCH IN THE #5 LOWE'S/SHOP VAC CHEVROLET WAS THE RAYBESTOS ROOKIE OF THE RACE AT DOVER. Notes: Busch finished ninth, his 18th top-10 finish of the 2004 season and the 21st of his 34-race Busch Series career. Busch took Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors for the sixth consecutive race. Busch becomes the first Raybestos® Rookie to score a top-10 finish in the fall event at Dover since Shane Hmiel finished 10th in 2002. "It was a frustrating day. I thought that we had a decent enough car where we could run up front and finish in the top-five but it just didn't end up that way. We were just as good as everybody else, pretty much, same lap times. We just didn't the track position and everybody else did so it was kind of hard for us to pick up spots." YOU SAID EARLY IN THE RACE THAT THE CAR FELT "BOUNCY." "The tires just built up a lot of air pressure and here at a concrete track for some reason the tires just bounce like crazy on concrete tracks. I guess it's because you can't get them perfectly smooth like asphalt. Asphalt will settle and concrete will build up in certain areas with the water. We made adjustments and the car got better all day long. We just got really tight there at the end but we were still fast enough where we thought we could get at least a top-five but we just couldn't catch and pass anybody. I struggle at this place so it's just one of those days. Martin [Truex Jr.] is always really good here and always has been because he's raced Busch North for so many years and he's raced his Busch car here for about five years. It's a struggle for me. I've only been here twice, three times now. We had a fifth and a 10th and we could have had a better day and that's all that matters." YOU HAD A TIGHT CAR AND STRUGGLED FOR MOST OF THE DAY. "It wasn't too bad. We had a decent enough car where I thought we could have finished anywhere from maybe eighth to fifth. We struggled a little bit and Lance [McGrew, crew chief] made some great changes. The guys worked hard all day long and had some awesome pit stops and we just got tight. We always have been here. It's just a struggle around this racetrack for me. I can't really seem to get a hold of it the way that I need to. Martin Truex has been running for a long, long time with Busch North and of course Busch so congratulations to them. They deserved it and they won the race. We'll go on to Kansas in a couple of weeks." YOU ARE IN A TIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP BATTLE WITH TRUEX SO WHEN YOU DON'T GAIN POINTS IT MUST BE FRUSTRATING. "We lost 50-something points today so it's definitely a bad day for us. These guys will never give up and neither will I and we'll just kind of keep digging at 'em and see what we can do. We're coming up to some racetracks that we feel like we can excel on such as Kansas and Lowe's and Atlanta and Homestead. We'll see what we can do there. The 8 car is going to go test everywhere to make sure their stuff is good so we'll see what we can do with 'em."
PAUL MENARD, #11 MENARDS/PITTSBURGH PAINTS CHEVROLET: "It kind of went from both ends of the spectrum. It started off not too bad and then it went a little bit tight so we freed it up. The last 100 laps killed us. We were just way loose the whole run and that was that." YOU SEEMED TO HAVE A GOOD SOLID DAY HERE AT DOVER. "It was pretty uneventful. You're out there running around trying to run as hard as you can. It wasn't much of a race, really, just driving around." WHAT DID YOU LEARN HERE TODAY THAT WILL HELP YOU AT DOVER NEXT YEAR? "Just trying to look for the right feel for the car. I said we were on both ends of the spectrum. I know we want to be not quite as tight as we started off but a happy medium in between where we started and where we ended." ARE YOU HAPPY WITH THE FINISH? "I'm pretty happy with it. I'm not satisfied but it could have been worse, I guess."
