DEFENDING CHAMPIONS - For the first time in NASCAR Busch Series history, the Owners' Championship and the Drivers' Championship were split. The No. 21 PAYDAY Chevrolet team won the Owners' Championship in commanding fashion, clinching the title at Rockingham with one race remaining in the season. The team finished 261 points ahead of the No. 5 team of Brian Vickers, who claimed the Drivers' Championship. In 2004, the No. 21 Chevrolet carries the REESE'S Peanut Butter Cups colors as the team attempts to defend its title. Harvick will compete in 20 of the 34 Busch Series events this season, and rookie driver Clint Bowyer will drive the No. 21 REESE'S Chevy in the 14 other events on the schedule.
PREVIOUSLY AT "THE MONSTER MILE"- Harvick drove the No. 21 REESE'S Chevrolet to a sixth-place finish in June at Dover. The No. 21 team had tested at Dover just two weeks prior and credited the strong run to that test. The race was completed on Monday after rain postponed the event on Saturday.
DOVER TEST-After the final Busch Series event at Nazareth Speedway in May, the REESE'S team traveled to Dover for a one-day test at the one-mile concrete oval. The test went well, and Harvick garnered more seat time in preparation for the June event. The No. 29 RCR Busch Series team tested at Dover with Kerry Earnhardt after the event at Richmond International Raceway two weeks ago. RCR gathered more information during the test and hopes to have all three Busch Series teams at the front of the field this week.
PACE CONTINUES-Harvick has 13 top-10 finishes this season. With five more Busch Series starts slated this season, he is on pace to match his 2003 total of 18 top-10 finishes. Harvick had 24 top-10 finishes in 33 starts during his championship season in 2001.
THE CAR-This week, crew chief Ricky Viers will load chassis No. 028 onto the REESE'S transporter. This is the same car Harvick drove in the June event at Dover. The car has also competed at Richmond (May), New Hampshire International Speedway (July) and Bristol Motor Speedway (March, August). The car has finished in the top-six in all five events.
QUICK QUOTES AND NOTES:
Crew chief Ricky Viers on Dover-"We've been running well lately, and I look to carry that over into this weekend. We tested here in the spring and had a good run back in June. We've had a chance to run this particular car several times since, and we've got a good starting point for this weekend."
