MBNA America 200 - Mike Wallace Notes
MIKE WALLACE / GEICO RACING PRE-RACE NOTES – DOVER
EVENT INFORMATION - Event: NASCAR Busch Series MBNA America 200 (NASCAR Busch Series race No. 14 of 34); Time and Date: 1 p.m. ET, Saturday, June 5; Site: Dover International Speedway; Live Coverage: FX (television) at 12:30 p.m. and MRN (radio) at 12:45 p.m. ET; Qualifying: Broadcast live on the SPEED Channel at 1 p.m. ET, Friday, June 4th.
LAST RACE (CARQUEST AUTO PARTS 300): Mike Wallace qualified 22nd and finished 29th in the Carquest Auto Parts 300 from Lowe’s Motor Speedway after the No. 39 of Andy Ponstein clipped Wallace’s Ford sending it into the turn 4 wall.
WALLACE ON DOVER INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY: “I have fond memories at Dover because it’s where I won my first Busch race at. It’s a concrete one mile race track and we’re excited to go there and race. We’ve had nice performances there in the past and we’re really looking forward to going there this year.”
IS WALLACE SUPERSTICIOUS?: “We’re trying to turn our luck around. We had a phone number with three six’s in it and we were told that’s bad luck and the sign of the devil so we changed our telephone number on Tuesday. My aunt gave me a bamboo plant for good luck a year ago and she showed at my house last night and told me to throw the bamboo plant away because it’s not good luck. We’re just trying to make some changes to turn our luck around.”
FROM THE ARCHIVES: Mike Wallace scored the win in the GM Goodwrench / Delco Battery 200 from Dover International Speedway on June 4, 1994 by defeating Nextel Cup Champion Terry Labonte in 200 laps of flag to flag action from the 1-mile track. Wallace drove Barry Owen’s No. 9 FDP sponsored Chevrolet to three wins, six top-fives, and nine top-tens in only 22 starts that year.
WALLACE TO RUN CUP WITH GEICO & ARNOLD MOTORSPORTS: On Tuesday, Arnold Motorsports announced that Mike Wallace will be behind the wheel of the No. 50 Dodge at Dover International Speedway on Sunday for the MBNA 400 “A Salute to Heroes” Nextel Cup race. The Gecko will accompany Wallace as GEICO has agreed to be the primary sponsor for the race.
WALLACE’S APPEARANCE SCHEDULE: Mike Wallace is scheduled to appear at the Dover Motorsports Club on Saturday, June 5th at 9:45 a.m. for a 15 minute Q&A session with fans.
