Bi-Lo 200 - Rookie Friday Quotes
RAYBESTOS® ROOKIE CONTENDER ADVANCE MATERIAL FOR THE BI-LO 200 NASCAR BUSCH SERIES RACE AT DARLINGTON RACEWAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2004.
Raybestos Rookie Kyle Busch and Martin Truex Jr. participated in a press conference Friday afternoon at Darlington.
KYLE BUSCH, No. 5 LOWE'S/SHOP VAC CHEVROLET: "We look forward to this weekend here at Darlington. We were able to sit on the pole here earlier this year in the spring and had a pretty decent run going until we had some unfortunate circumstances with a chain that holds the rear end inside the car breaking on us. We're just coming in here this weekend to do the best that we can. That's what we do every weekend, whether it's a top-five, top-10. We just look forward to going out there and gaining some championship points if we can to try to either chase down Martin or keep the second spot locked down."
"Basically, it's a real tough struggle, obviously dealing with the things that I've had to deal with and of course the whole team has after the circumstances that came about and that were kind of thrown on us. We always want to go out there and do the best we can every week but especially when you're trying to get a victory just to try to raise the spirits of the team and of course the whole organization. It's real frustrating sometimes when you're able to finish second not once, but twice in a row. Of course you lead the most laps and you sit on the pole with a new track record and you do all you need to do in order to try to get that. It's just frustrating and the emotions weren't quite right at the time in order to speak with anybody so I figured I'd go cool down a little bit in the trailer."
"Yeah, that's another thing. He comes out of nowhere and finishes third. Of course it's frustrating that you can't gain any championship points but that's what happens. We just go out there and do all we can do. The fortunes that come about us and come about them is one thing and another. What they do in order to work themselves into a better position is great for them but not so good for us."
"We wasted about a day and three-quarters down there not finding anything. We thought that we were pretty good Tuesday and then we got into Wednesday and we were
completely junk all day and didn't have anything going for us. We just started throwing stuff at it within the last two hours and we finally found something that picked us up really well. Overall, I wasn't really happy with the whole test but right at the end we came about and we found something that we could work with. I feel pretty good, as though we had a good racecar for down there and that's all we worked on was race stuff so hopefully we'll be all right."
"Basically, I've kind of learned more so about patience on the racetrack. When I ran late models years ago and things like that and of course in the Craftsman Truck Series they were all quick sprint races. Now that you've gotten into the Busch Series they're a little bit longer and of course that's going to teach me a lot for what I need to learn for next year because they're even longer. Patience was a big key and of course trying to learn the cars a little bit more and learning basic setups and things like that. Once we came up with a basic setup that we could go to the racetrack with every week, we seem to be more competitive right off the truck and kind of fine tune with certain springs and certain shocks and things like that to kind of help us out a little bit more. I'm just becoming more accustomed to the racetracks, the cars, and of course patience was a big key."
