Hershey's Kisses 300 - Jason Leffler Notes

Jason Leffler will make his 42nd NASCAR Busch Series start in the Hershey Kisses 300 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway.

JASON LEFFLER ON THE HERSHEY KISSES 300…

"If the race goes anything like our test went a couple of weeks ago in Daytona then I can't wait to get started. I know one thing for sure, everybody went back to their shops after the tests and made a lot of changes to their cars to find a little bit more speed, and we were no exception, even though we felt pretty good about the way our Haas Automation Chevys ran. Based on that, when we all get back to Daytona it will be a different ballgame, but I feel pretty confident in what we have.

Obviously at these restrictor plate races qualifying at the front isn't all that important, but we'd still like to go out there and have a good qualifying run to start the season off right. As far as the race goes, it will be interesting to see what plays out throughout the day. There have been a couple of rules changes, and of course we've got these new tires to figure out, so I think that will make for a great race."

ON THE SEASON…

"These guys on this team have worked really hard during the off season. We came out of the box strong in the races we ran last season and we hadn't really had the time to put together a complete Busch Series team. In the off season we hired a lot of people and Bootie (Barker, crew chief) has really put together a good team.

I know everybody has to say this in the beginning of the year, but I really do feel good about our chances this season. We're a new team, but most of these guys have been around a while and know what it takes to be successful. I know we'll all be disappointed if aren't pretty successful right away."

DAYTONA NOTES OF INTEREST

  • The 2003 Hershey Kisses 300 will be Jason Leffler's second NASCAR Busch Series race at the 2.5-mile facility.
  • The Haas Automation team will utilize the same Chevrolet Monte Carlo Leffler tested during Preseason Thunder in January. The car, chassis No. 215, was also tested at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway and is new to the Haas Automation team.
  • Leffler's lap of 181.156 miles per hour during testing led all the Busch Series competitors in testing sessions at the Speedway in the off season.
  • Jason Leffler has 5 previous Daytona International Speedway appearances. Leffler made his first Daytona appearance in the 2000 NAPA Auto Parts 300 Busch Series event, starting 11th and finishing 20th.
  • Leffler's most recent Daytona appearance came in the 2003 Florida Dodge Dealers 250 Craftsman Truck Series race. He started from the pole and finished 30th (Accident).
  • Leffler's best Daytona finish is 11th in the 2002 Truck Series event.
  • In competition for the final six races of 2003, the Haas Automation team relied on pit stop and crew help from the NetZero Racing team. During the off-season, the No.00 team was revamped to include a complete crew of it's own in its quest for the Busch Series championship.
