Biffle Wins California, Again
Greg Biffle led the Nextel Cup dominance of the Busch series Target House 300 at California Speedway. Biffle and Casey Mears battled for most of the event and it was fitting that they would battle for the lead with only a few laps remaining. Biffle passed Mears, who started form the pole, with two laps to go to take the lead for the final time. Biffle went on to win by .356 seconds to capture his fifth win of the season and the 16th of his career. Biffle led the most laps in the event, leading eight times for 72 of the race’s 150 laps. Mears led six times for 45 laps. The trip to victory lane was the second consecutive for Biffle at Fontana, he won the Stater Bros. 300 back in May. Mears finished in the runner-up position, while the remainder of the top-five finishing positions was filled by Nextel Cup regulars. Kevin Harvick came home in third, followed by Kasey Kahne and Jamie McMurray. Points leader Martin Truex Jr. was best-in-class, finishing sixth.
Mears Captures NBS Pole at Fontana
Casey Mears captured the pole position for the Target House 300 at California Speedway on Friday afternoon. Mears, who drives the Target Dodge in the Nextel Cup series, won the pole in only his fifth NBS start of the season. The hometown hero scored his second Busch series pole of 2004 with a lap of 39.368 seconds, at an average speed of 182.890 mph. Points leader Martin Truex Jr. will start the event from the outside pole, followed by Kasey Kahne and Kyle Busch in row two.
