Aaron's 312 - Lyndon Amick Notes

TEAM AMICK MOTORSPORTS DEBUTS AT TALLADEGA

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (April 1, 2003) - Team Amick Motorsports (TAM), home of the No. 32 Busch Series Chevrolet Monte Carlo, makes its debut this Saturday in the Aaron's 312 at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway. The newly formed Team Amick Motorsports, which is based in the same shop as its sister company, Team Amick Engine Development, features 2000 Busch Series Champion crew chief Harold Holly with Lyndon Amick behind the wheel. While the team is brand new, this weekend does not mark the first time Holly and Amick have worked together.

Holly teamed up with Lyndon Amick for one race last season acting as co-owner of the No. 15 ppc Racing entry that Amick drove to a ninth-place finish at Kansas Speedway. In their short time together (Holly joined Team Amick in February of 2003 after Angela's Motorsports closed its shop), the duo have established a chemistry that will hopefully propel them to a top finish.

"Last time Lyndon and I worked together on the track I was the owner not the crew chief," explained Holly. "I guess it doesn't really matter if I'm the owner or the crew chief, I just want to make sure we finish in the top-five in Talladega with our car in one piece."

Dubbed "NASCAR's Most Competitive Track", the 2.66-mile oval of Talladega Superspeedway is the longest and fastest track on the Busch Series circuit. Speeds at over 200 miles per hour have been reached at the track, which is four lanes wide, with wide turns and a 4,000 foot long backstretch. On lap 15 of last year's Busch Series event, fans witnessed one of the most exciting yet horrific crashes in the track's 34-year history. "The Big One", teams nickname for accidents at large fast tracks like Talladega Superspeedway, involved 27 cars and caused serious sheet metal damage to most. In the end, only a few cars crossed the finish line in one piece. Fortunately, despite the magnitude of the incident, nobody was injured.

Both Amick and Holly are hoping to avoid "The Big One." A strong qualifying run, smooth pit stops by the No. 77 Jasper Engines and Transmissions pit crew and levelheaded driver Amick behind the wheel should increase the No. 32 Chevy's odds for completing the 117-lap event. Also in the team's favor is Holly's success at the track, which incidentally is located less than 20 miles from his hometown of Pell City, Alabama.

In the past four years, Holly has captured two top-five qualifying runs and two top-five finishes at Talladega both with driver Jeff Green. Amick, who has run five times at the track, finished fifth in the event in 1999. Team owner Bill Amick is confident with all of the components of his team including the driver, crew chief and engine.

"I am just so excited to get this season started," stated Amick. "The No. 32 has a great engine underneath the hood provided by Bo Montgomery and his crew. Harold and his team have been working on the car for weeks. Lyndon's been waiting a long time [since last September] to get behind the wheel again. Team Amick Motorsports couldn't be more ready."

See the No. 32 make its race debut this Saturday, April 5 in the Aaron's 312. The race will be broadcast live on FOX and MRN Radio beginning at 2:00 p.m. ET.
