Hardee's 250 - Ford Post-Race Quotes

SCOTT RIGGS-10-Nestle Nesquik Ford Taurus (Finished 2nd) - DID YOU HAVE SOMETHING FOR HARVICK AT THE END? "I think so, but all kinds of things could have happened. I've got to thank the Good Lord up above for looking after us. We had a great race car. It's a brand-new race car. We took it back home a couple of weeks ago at Orange County Speedway and it worked good and we brought it here and my hat's off to all of these guys. We had great communication on everybody's part on this team. We did have a good car. We knew it was good in Happy Hour and we just tried to bide our time and pace ourselves. Like Doug (Randolph) said, 'Hang in there the first half of the race and we'll race the second half.' We played our game exactly the way we planned it out. I wish we could have had some laps. We'll hold our chins up high because we knew we had a good race car. We'll go back next week and try to get them again."

JASON KELLER-57-Albertsons Ford Taurus (Finished 21st) - "It seemed like we were somehow involved in all of those cautions tonight. We actually lost the setup about halfway through the race, after that first run. I'm not sure why or what, and that kind of put us back in that position to get in all the wrecks. We just did all we could do." TRACK POSITION SEEMED TO BE A KEY FACTOR TONIGHT WITH ALL OF THE CAUTIONS. "We got in a couple of bang-ups and lost all of that track position and that made for a bad night." HOW WAS THE RACING SURFACE TONIGHT? "Actually, the groove moved way up and that surprised me. When it moved up we really lost the handle on it. It kind of worked not in our favor tonight."

KASEY KAHNE-38-Great Clips Ford Taurus (Finished 18th) - "We had a good car, but from the start of the race there was always a caution flag, the whole race. We were involved in most of them, but we've got a car in one piece so that's good. Other than that, it was just a tough night. You couldn't get a rhythm established with all of the cautions out there." DID YOU HAVE HELP WHEN YOU SPUN YOUR CAR? "No. I was faster than the 4 car and I was passing him. There was a lapped car in front of me and I tried to move up a little bit to try to pass him in the corner and the 4 was still beside me. I knew he was there and I was hoping he would give me a little bit of room, but he held his ground like he should have and when I got loose I just spun myself. If I would have tried to fight it I would have spun him or spun both of them." DID THE GROOVE WIDEN OUT TONIGHT AS THE RACE PROGRESSED? "I think the track conditions were perfect. I couldn't think of a better track. This is the best the track has been since I've been racing at Richmond and this is my third time. I don't know what the problem was."

BOBBY HAMILTON, JR.-25-Team Marines Ford Taurus (Finished 10th) - YOU WERE ABLE TO AVOIDS MOST OF THE ACCIDENTS TONIGHT. DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOUR LUCK IS TURNING AROUND? "I hope so. After missing a handful of wrecks, definitely. That's all luck anyway. After the last couple of weeks, this is really something to build on." WITH THE RECORD NUMBER OF CAUTIONS TONIGHT, WAS THERE A PROBLEM WITH THE TRACK CONDITIONS? "I'm going to tell you that the track really came in on its own. You could run high side, inside, three wide. There were a lot of people that weren't using their heads. It was ridiculous sometimes. There'd be a caution and they'd go four wide racing back to the yellow flag. I just didn't want to be any part of that because I know how my luck has been going - I'd tear my car up. I just raced them on the race track and under green and it paid off."

SCOTT RIGGS PRESS CONFERENCE

IT WAS A GOOD NIGHT, BUT WOULD IT HAVE BEEN A BETTER NIGHT WITHOUT THAT LAST CAUTION? "I think so, but there were still a lot of chances out there, a lot of moments that we could have gotten in trouble and gotten our car torn up. All of the guys on the Nesquik Ford worked awful hard to bring this brand-new race car here to Richmond. We worked hard to have a good qualifying setup and a good race setup and keep that track position. We were able to keep that track position and we were able to keep that track position all night. You can't take anything away from the guy that won. Kevin put his car in the right position to win this race and that's what he did. You can't sit back and judge and give ifs, ands, or buts. There were a lot of times that we could have taken our car out and not finished second so we have to be happy with what we did."

DID THE NUMBER OF CAUTION FLAGS TONIGHT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE TRACK CONDITIONS? "I think that the track definitely got pretty slick tonight, but we had a pretty good race car. I think that anytime a track gets slick, whatever problem you have it just intensifies it. Last night it was just a water seepage problem. Everybody knew that after qualifying that they vexed it and I don't think that anybody had that in their mind tonight during the race."

WHAT WERE YOU THINKING WHEN YOU GOT TO HARVICK'S BUMPER, AND WHAT DOES THIS DO FOR THE TEAM'S MOMENTUM? "When I got to his bumper I was just trying to get it out of my windshield and put it in my rearview mirror. We were trying to make the pass, and, of course, the caution came out when I felt like I had a good run on him. Like I said before, we can't take anything away from Kevin. Those guys did a great job on the 21 car and so did my guys on the Nesquik Ford Taurus. They worked awful hard. We brought a brand-new car to Richmond and we'll take this momentum and go on to St. Louis."

DO YOU THINK NASCAR SHOULD HAVE A GREEN-WHITE-CHECKERED FINISH FOR THE BUSCH SERIES? "If I was leading, if I was in Kevin's shoes, I would say, 'no' but if you're in the second-place shoes you'd say, 'yes.' You ask questions like that and it really just depends on what position you're in and how the circumstances affect you that night. We all know what the rules are when we started and I don't think anybody wants anybody to change the rules during the race or change them next week because of the race. If they had green-white-checkered it might have been a different outcome, but at the same token we could have been leading and I we would have been mad if they changed the rule and made it a green-white-checkered finish. Whatever the rules are, we all the know what they are before we get here."
