Bashas' Supermarkets 200 - David Green Notes
David Green Phoenix Preview
Track / Size: Phoenix Int’l Raceway (1 M) Date: November 1, 2003
Phoenix Associate Sponsor ... Mobile On The Run will be the associate sponsor on the Timber Wolf Pontiac for the Bashas’ Supermarkets 200 at the Phoenix Int’l Raceway this weekend. Mobile On The Run has 55 retail outlets in the Metro Phoenix, Arizona area.
Last Race – Atlanta Motor Speedway ... David Green started 3rd and finished 8th in the Aaron’s 312 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway last Saturday. Green, who ran in the top ten all afternoon, scored his 19th top ten finish of the 2003 season and retook the NASCAR Busch Series points lead. Green now leads Scott Riggs by 13 points, Jason Keller and Ron Hornaday Jr. by 35, and Brian Vickers by 49 with only three races remaining.
“Shorty” tackles Phoenix ... David Green will drive “Shorty” this week at Phoenix. “Shorty” has been the most used car in the Timber Wolf stable at Brewco Motorsports this season with seven races. “Shorty” has one win (New Hampshire), one pole (Bristol 1), three top five and six top ten finishes in those seven races. “Shorty” has been raced at Las Vegas, both Bristol races, Richmond 1, Gateway, New Hampshire, and Indianapolis Raceway Park. This car has led three different races (Bristol 1, Gateway, and New Hampshire) a total of four times for 70 laps. The average finish for “Shorty” in ’03 is 6.4; average start 6.7. “Shorty” got its name because it was built to be the short track car in the Timber Wolf stable.
Tight, but not the tightest ... Believe it or not, the thirteen points that separate leader David Green and second-place Scott Riggs in the Busch Series title chase is not the tightest race ever with three races remaining. In 1986, Larry Pearson led Brett Bodine by only six points with three races left. Pearson did manage to hold on to capture his first of two consecutive championships.
Easily the closest ... Although the separation in the top two is not the tightest in Busch history, the 49 point spread between Green and fifth-place Brian Vickers is easily the closest at this point of the season. The previous closest between first and fifth was in 1989 when Tommy Houston held a 180-point advantage.
